NIce find Paul. 15% storage/peak shaving (4hrs) required for all new RE projects in China beyond the existing 90GW of wInd and Solar "guaranteed" to be connected to the grid in 2021. Projects with 20% storage/peak shaving to get prioritised grid connections.
The pot is bubbling.
What was also very telling with Matt was that he now seems to believe that VRFBs are happening where in previous interviews he appeared dismissive of them taking off. I always a little wary of Crux, they are big Nuclear/Uranium advocates so good to see them more accepting and positive about Vanadium/VRFBs.
Hi Paludina, FYI andJust checking, are you still maintaining the TBP US shipments. Looks like another 3 containers arrived on Aug 3. 2 x 18,922kgs and 1 x 20,000.

Big battery safety requirements getting more air time at long last. Simples....use water based VRFBs.

Just the change in tone and sense of fight in Fortune in this interview gives me confidence that a switch that he has been waiting for has been flicked on. Hopefully the beginning of a positive set of events and getting back to where we should be.....and beyond. GLA.

Elandskop and Graafwater not on the list yet.
Additional Witzenberg 11Mw 9hr duration project there.
Looking through a selection of the associated documents for the BESS projects on the page above it does look like these projects are down to two technologies, LiOn and VRFB. Most likely a mix on each site. One gets the feeling that once one is announced that we will get a nice batch. Fingers crossed.
Agree sammy, and including ukmoe's link to the BESS Fires paper should add some meat to any concerns they may raise on the issue.

A fire at one of the largest Tesla battery installations in the world has drawn fresh attention to the risks of batteries used to store renewable energy for electricity grids.
It took three days for the blaze to be extinguished after it started during testing in a shipping container holding a 13 tonne lithium-ion battery, at Moorabool near Geelong in Australia, and spread to a second battery pack.
Yet there have been a total of 38 large lithium-ion battery fires since 2018, according to Paul Christensen, a professor at Newcastle University.
Reading the text of the case it may even be in the interest of the US gov to promote an offtake via a US company, or look to take a stake to guarantee supply until the US have some local production. Wouldn't it be nice to see the US and Chinese bidding against each other for little old Bushie.
They are on a roll with this news...
