Pound cost averaging the great wealth creator as long as by year 7 the value of the share price has gone up. I’m in no rush to sell as I am well under water so it is nice to have a decent dividend until year 7 arrives.

@thedectector - you’re right Trump has influenced the oil price and the likes of BP have benefited. However his impact is marginal in the long term. No one person has that much influence even if they want it to be. Remember he wants lower petrol prices to save his own skin. I suspect the mid terms will decide the next two years and whether it becomes a lame duck administration. Meg like any good CEO will focus on what she can influence . Oil exploration and production is at least a 3 to 5 year timeline. Trump will be gone in 2 but who knows who will lead the US. My investment in BP has never been about geopolitics; that would be foolish. I think most investors in oil companies understand the risks and there will be a time to move on. I think there is a lot more to come from BP on the basis that Meg has just arrived and not fully deployed her strategy yet.

I bet Netanyahu is loving this. POO will again be influenced by sentiment again and BP will go up. This is turning into a traders share. The long term fix for oil supplies is to develop alternative routes i.e. pipelines etc. That will take time and removes a key lever for Iran. I’m sure the Arab States have got this in hand. I also think there will be a strategic shift in the balance of power when it comes to these resources. There are huge discoveries being found in other parts of the world that will have an impact on POO. Don’t know the timescales but before you know it the SOH will become irrelevant. From a BP perspective getting to best in class from an overall cost per barrel will drive the share price. The politics and ME unrest will then become marginal.

I wonder if POO will rise. If it does, it goes back to my point the other day about how cumbersome the HBR board is. Great opportunities this week to buy and cancel a load of shares. The opportunity may have been missed now for the time being at least.

I agree this exodus of wealthy people through higher taxation is a myth. However Government whatever the party has a shocking record of poor productivity and a near 100% failure rate of deploying any major project to time and budget. It’s a trust issue; that’s why wealthy or less wealthy people don’t want to give more money. The Government has to demonstrate financial competence and they need to start delivering it now. Despite record taxes we are still borrowing 10’s of billions each month. Keep offering excuses and Joe Public will start making daft decisions such as voting for ‘The Regurgitate Party’ who are full of failed politicians from the past . Anyway the markets appear to think Lloyds can play its part and invest in the private sector where they have skin in the game. You can’t say that about the civil service. The record of the past 20 years speaks for itself. It’s not a political party issue; it is a competence issue within the government machine.

Now’s the time for Linda to strike and remove 5% of shares. I’ll be disappointed if the end of period share count report doesn’t reflect a buyback. Not really sure what they are waiting for. I do sometimes think the HBR board is slow and cumbersome. They need to start changing that perception. This jam tomorrow concept is wearing thin for me. I’ve been around a while since the PMO days.

I think when a country has £3 trillion of debt it tends to focus your mind. Institutional investors will decide because they are the ones loaning the money and if it is a risk. Up goes interest rates.

I’ve become a very long term investor with HBR Energy. God - talk about jam tomorrow. Think I will be 6 foot under before I break even. Good dividends though and together with BP provided a half decent income.

The yanks have always been about themselves from year dot. The UK and our European colleagues are starting to smell the coffee. Growth has to be from within and the likes of Lloyds need to take a rational punt on our own tech industries. We have limited visibility on their investments understandably. Burnham needs to ensure the investment community take risks and not place an additional tax burden on them which is my fear. My view and it may be controversial is raise the basic rate of income tax. The nation got bailed out with the COVID payments to cover pay. People need to understand that needs to be paid back. Businesses need tax breaks to create jobs. That has been my main issue with Reeves. She taxed the wrong side of the economic equation.

Humble opinion

Just don’t see it. NG is well managed from my point of view. We the general public haven’t got big enough pockets to pay for NG anyway. There is a lot of political nonsense around at the moment. Nothing will be nationalised other than the train operating companies because that is already in motion. The press particularly right wing are good at scaremongering. As long as the bond markets behave and borrowing costs drop then this is on a slow ride to the top of the hill in my humble. For me it’s the income growth .

I think people who invest in FTC fall into one of two groups. ‘The Jam Tomorrow’ or ‘The Sugar And Fruit’. I like my Jam so I’ll let it simmer until I get the perfect taste and texture.

A little shake out doesn’t do any harm. I agree with your view. Significant orders will be the catalyst but in the meantime it will go up and down like a fiddlers elbow driven by tech investor sentiment. I’ve only got a small holding as it was one of those speculative ventures and I am not in any rush to sell.

Did I not mention the other day about sentiment? Amazing isn’t it. Let’s hope it doesn’t swing the other way. Something about Streetings comments suggest a potential financial role for him.
