I am going with the 6.28% that is listed in the latest financials and in the latest presentation. Yes, 18M is the shares total WW was referring to.

I still go off 6.28% and think that number is actually lower now. Just a guess though.

Not a drilling pro at all, but my guess it might depend on economics. I read that horizontal is 3 times the cost of vertical drilling.

Does anyone have a date of when Santos started to frac Tanumbirini 1? I know the Empire presentation made mention of it. The EMP stated 8 week frac for November/December. Maybe done by Christmas?

The date on the EMP was Oct 23. Not sure how long it takes to start a frac?

Resources Minister Matt Canavan has used a visit to the Permian Basin in Texas to call for America’s shale gas revolution to be brought to Australia, arguing there is an opportunity to deliver a manufacturing boom for Darwin and northern Australia.

Senator Canavan arrived in the US on Saturday and met representatives from Chevron to get a first-hand look at their shale operations in the Permian Basin, including visits to a fracking and a drilling operation.

According to Geoscience Australia’s submission to the Scientific Inquiry into Hydraulic Fracturing in the Northern Territory, the Betaloo sub-basin has the potential to deliver 178,000 petajoules of shale gas. This makes it larger than any of the North West Shelf conventional gas resources.

It found that, over 25 years, a moderate level of onshore gas development in the Beetaloo could create more than 6500 jobs and be worth more than $9bn a year. “The Beetaloo basin would be the first major shale basin in the Asia-Pacific region too. There is enormous potential for Australian energy to help other countries in our region grow and develop, and produce wealth for Australians,” Senator Canavan told The Australian.

“More use of gas can also help bring down carbon emissions. The US is reducing its carbon emissions by more than almost any other country. Signing agreements does not reduce carbon emissions but technology does.

“Shale gas is a proven technology that we should embrace in Australia.”

The Morrison government moved to open Northern Territory shale fields for exploration and development in the April 2 budget as part of a $75m package to support ­reliable energy infrastructure.

This included an $8.4m pledge to support feasibility studies to accelerate gas supplies from the Northern Territory to the east coast market and represented the first step in creating a new gas province to help service the domestic market.

Senator Canavan has described the Beetaloo sub-basin as the “best immediate prospect” for a new Australian oil and gas hub.

First drilling activities occurred in the basin last month, with Origin Energy successfully commencing drilling at the Kyalla 117 well.

Origin’s Beetaloo operations are supported by about 50 local businesses, with more than 50 Territorians employed during this early exploration stage. Santos is also expected to begin further drilling early in 2020.

Senator Canavan told the parliament in July that geologists had estimated the Beetaloo sub-basin was as big as the Permian in Texas. “We have not yet developed any major shale resources here in Australia, but this first one could be very exciting for our nation,” he said.

The US shale gas revolution allowed it to reduce its dependence on oil imports and led to a major expansion of domestic oil and natural gas, with hopes the trend could result in a new era of “energy independence”.
