Fast forward 2 years, Avacta Affimers have rescued the world and MF would still be walking up and down Wetherby high st with a sandwich board over shoulders proclaiming ‘we are all doomed’ ...the end is nigh’
Wait until the Sun find out (or are allowed to report) that Avacta, Sir Al and Affimers are all from Yorkshire.
Cue an outpouring of nationalistic pride. I can see a Union Jack emblazoned front page featuring Churchill with cigar and V salute with Sir Al’s head neatly superimposed on top
LOL Good riddance. It was unbearable on here last night.
I actually have a theory that when the board goes into meltdown it is caused by one (maybe two) juvenile narcissists who simultaneously log in under several user names specifically to reinforce their own agendas which are deliberately antagonistic to phish for reactions, which they usually get.
Anyway, tonight fantastic updates has hopefully seen them off for good, fingers crossed.
Where are the juvenile delinquents tonight ??
I loved that show Kainos, so I'm really envious. I guess you've gone through life proudly telling people (including your kids perhaps?) about your claim to fame, only to be met with blank expressions and 'that sounds crap Dad' type comments !! ...well no longer, you have finally met someone who can appreciate the kudos and give you the honour that you truly deserve !! LOL.
You will no doubt remember that (I think) it was filmed live like a lot of the kids shows of the time and Mike Reid was semi-illiterate and regularly mangled the questions with mispronunciations and semi intelligible mutterings. He was hilarious without realising it.
The big question however is, how far did you get? Did you go with your own instincts? or jump onto the wrong answer because the idiot in front of you jumped first ??? then the walk of shame into the 'sin bin' or whatever it was called? happy days
Arbitrage, judging by your username I'm guessing that you were born in 1965?
If so, me too, a vintage year !!
You may remember a crappy children's TV game show from the late 70's called 'Runaround' with Mike Reid (the ****ney geezer not the radio1 DJ)
The behaviour on the PI's here reminds me of that show where about 30 kids were faced with 3 answers to a simple question and then had to stand on a square in front of their chosen answer. Then the fun part was that they were given a 2 second window to change their mind (to Runaround).
It was hilarious to watch the kids who clearly knew the correct answer all jump onto the wrong answer because one muppet decided that the fastest animal on earth wasn't a Cheetah but was an Elephant and like sheep they all followed him because they panicked when the pressure was on.
Could it be something so unremarkable that he and his family have timed the house completion/move to coincide with the half term school holidays next week ? now that would confound the conspiracy theorists !!
Very good point Hants, I am in the process of buying a house and we agreed a price with the vendors in July, last week, the sale was knocked into Jan 2021 due to delays in the chain, principally, local authority searches, mortgage offers, surveys etc etc. at the moment the housing chain is an absolute joke.
There is no way that Al will have had any control over the timing of this, if indeed he is telling the truth. As you suggest, he (and his family) will probably have instigated this purchase months ago and its nothing but timing that his conveyancer has requested the funds now.
Come on think about !!! if there is a Mrs Smith and kids involved then this decision will not have been Als. I live close to Wetherby and decent houses move very quickly, if his better half has spotted the perfect family home then big Al will have had very little say in this decision.
Wouldn't worry too much about funds being made available for the AVCT test. They can come up with as many snappy names as they like but when the test is available and its benefits clear then Rishi will get the chequebook sharpish out as the cost will be peanuts compared to what he's forking out at the moment.
Crazy thing is, when Cruise ships are moored at anchor i.e. not docked in a port, they have to keep the engines/generators running and a crew onboard as a safety precaution ! imagine the costs ??
Heathrow needs a AVCT test urgently

Hi Urban, AIG, very good business, profitable with a rock solid balance sheet before the CV nightmare. Due to their 'flag carrier' status I have always felt they will be at the front of the queue for UK/Irish/Spanish governmental support should they need it. Where Ryanair/Easyjet/Virgin will be left to fend for themselves.
Depending on the impact of an AVCT test, perhaps getting back to £2.70 could take a while but it wouldn't be unreasonable to see the SP get back to £1.50- £2 ish in the short term/Q1 2021.
Also agree that CC are a good bet, I'm quite close to the cruise space and the pre covid growth figures were exponential with many new ships under construction across the sector. Again, depending on the roll out speed of the AVCT test, I can see cruising recovering particularly quickly as contrary to the perception that ships are floating petri-dishes, conversely, with well managed testing, they could be seen as incredibly CV secure places from which to see the world.
Mentioned this yesterday, AIG could be worth a punt and would surely bounce on a positive AVCT RNS?
'IAG's shares fell 1.6% to 99.14p in response to the update. They changed hands for as much as £2.70 in January.'

Trek, why do the Chinese need a CV19 vaccine? Haven't they eliminated it already?
I'm a Cervelo R3 man myself but have a mate who swears by his Madone !!
Interesting article which demonstrates just how desperate Boris and HMG are to find a solution. I wish them the best of luck scaling up to deliver that contract, I think they’ll need it.
It does underline the challenge facing the whole testing industry, including AVCT.
Unprecedented demand has come out of the blue and there is a network of relatively small ‘research’ companies that have been thrust into this gold rush to develop and deliver CV tests.
When you consider that BBI Solutions 2019 turnover was ‘only’ £37 mill with a staff of 284, even the supposed bigger boys are nowhere near large enough to deliver the numbers alluded to by Mr McNulty.
And anyone who has ever seen AVCTs Wetherby HQ would be astounded to imagine that within it resides a £450m MC company, think more along the lines David Brent/The Office.
It’s why I take some strange reassurance from the time it is taking Avacta to update us, it tells me that Sir Al is doing exactly what he said he would do, which is take his time, get it right and make sure all his ducks are in a row before updating the market.
A genuine well done to novacyt holders.
However, when you stop and consider the real world problems caused by this pandemic, then rapid POC tests that screen out the infectious as opposed to the infected are soon going to steal the lunch of PCR tests.
A great product in the absence of anything better has capitalised on first mover advantage but look at the link below, this is what is happening in the real world and PCR tests will become obsolete because they simply cannot be administered, in sufficient volume, quickly enough, at the locations where they are needed .
Think Betamax Vs VHS, superior tech but ..........

Hi Urban
IAG group, they have 3 national flag carriers in their stable (BA, Iberia, Aer Lingus) IMO the British, Spanish and Irish governments would always jump in where they wouldn't with Virgin for example. And as DOH says CCL TUI and Norwegian in the Cruise space.
Loads of anecdotal evidence suggesting that people want to travel again just as soon as the quarantine nightmare is removed....and we all know a company that could help with that don't we ???
Spot on TallPaul.
We often hear CV19 compared to other diseases but the reality is that CV19 is unprecedented and is the first true global pandemic. Even if we compare it to the Spanish Flu pandemic of 1918 (which killed 50 million) the global population then was less than 2 billion (8 billion today) and back then we were far less efficient at transporting the virus than we are today.
CV19 (and its mutations) are now with us and that particular genie cannot be put back in the lamp. The effort and resources required to inoculate 8 billion people and eliminate it as we have done with smallpox is simply not feasible. You don't need to be a virologist to understand that they only way out of this is by long term effective management, which will include a combination of inoculation, POC testing, antibody testing and changes in societal behaviour.
I don't believe that it is unreasonable to expect that AVCT and their affimers will have a role to play in the solution and this is why I find it frustrating to read this BB sometimes filled with petty nonsense about 'why no RNS for 3 weeks?' 'our competitors are leaving us behind' etc etc.
Stand back and consider what is going on in the world and thank your lucky stars that you are aware of AVCT and their abilities well in advance of 99.9% of the rest of the world's population. Pretty soon everyone is going to know who AVCT are and the benefit their affimers can bring to the world (not forgetting their oncology benefits)
Vegas, I work in the travel industry, or at least what's left of it !!!
I have no doubt that demand for travel will recover and know from colleagues in the industry that there has been an incredibly high rate of transfer bookings from 2020 to 2021. For example, most Cruise companies have full order books for summer 2021 as a significant majority of customers have been happy to transfer.
The issue will be if the ships will be able to sail and will airlines be able to transport passengers to and from the departure ports.
That is why on a day like today, when the share price is dropping my major frustration is not the lack of an RNA but the lack of my ability to buy more shares (I've maxed out already !!)
The nervous gamblers on here spend too much time staring at their navels and stressing over a few % here and a few % there when they should occasionally stand back and look at the world macro economic situation and what part testing will play in the recovery.
My experience is mainly in the travel industry and it is only one small example of how the AVCT product can effectively bring an industry back from the brink of collapse. There are dozens of other industries absolutely crying out for the AVCT solution.
There will be demand for all tests for years to come and if AVCT deliver one of the best then the company and shareholders fates will be secure. Its almost irrelevant if delivery takes a little while longer than our 'competitors'. Far better to take the time to get it right. Remember the old saying 'act in haste...repent at leisure'
