The rate of decline in coronavirus infections has slowed, with parts of England even showing a rise in cases, according to the latest results from the national React survey.
While infection levels fell by two thirds between January and February, cases are now halving only every 31 days, up from about 15, researchers said.
Overall, one person in 204 in the community in England would have tested positive for coronavirus last month, they said.
Matt Han****, the health secretary, said: “There is some cause for concern that our hard-won progress may be slowing down, and even reversing in some regions so it is important we remain vigilant — this is on all of us.” Researchers from Imperial College London (ICL) urged “continued adherence to social distancing and public health measures” to get infection rates down “to much lower levels” and “help to ensure that the benefits of the vaccination programme in England are fully realised”.
