Roundtable Discussion; The Future of Mineral Sands. Watch the video here.
Right, we have done politics to death, can we move on to religion now for our next heated debate?
Or just discuss Sound maybe?
H
Yes, but this has been done to death recently and I am not sure what more is going to be gained by going over it all again. If it is just to get the irritation off your chest then fair enough.
H
I think this is all about the insurance part of the business which is struggling to make the profits it did on the back of new Government regulations.
Shed - at least we exchanged our views without abusing each other...……
Cheers
H
Shed - SOU share information and then that information is picked to pieces. Even the sparse RNS yesterday which was clearly intended to calm jittery investors was criticised.
Phrases such as mobilisation and procurement can mean anything you want them to mean without the planning documents that go with them and with the 'real' on the ground plans rather than the desires of us investors. I say again that there may be other variables that decide how hard things are pushed to obtain timelines when other things are going on from a business and negotiation perspective.
I worked on a project where we could have 'gone live' in the January but it was much more neficial to do this (for various reasons) in May. It didxnt please everyone to do this and there were reasons that couldnt be shared for the delay but thats business/life.
I dont work in IT (and apologies to any that do) but I have been involved in enough IT projects that sail happily past deadline after deadline because of the complexities involved, I may be wrong but operating in the middle of nowhere with very sophisticated equipment (including said IT systems) then the scope for delay seems significant.
Anyway, that is enough of being the apologist for Sound. It is what it is and some people will never have enough answers or the answers they want. Tell us nothing but the final result seems the easiest option for Sound.
H
And what level of detail do you think should be shared? I have worked on many, many projects and the level of detail you are requesting would just not get escalated to senior management (never mind shareholders) unless it was critical. I suspect that the timescales that are being followed meant that this is something that is following the plan. To look at the comments you and others make there is a suggestion that the management of Sound are lying to us. Fair enough, this is Aim and it isn't the 'cleanest' placed to invest but much more importantly (in my view) they would also therefore have to be lying to and misleading SLB. I find that highly unlikely not least because they are so close to the operational side of things. You deserve to be told nothing except the final results in my opinion as you cant take the information you are being given without knitting it into a conspiracy theory.
Just my opinion of course.
H
and there has not been a leak because they haven't done the testing yet...………..
Does seem that the conversation is similar in many ways to that prior to us getting to 11p.
There was no reason for it then and there is no reason for it now.
It is odd that when there is a difficult period the most useful thing some people can think of doing is fighting amongst themselves. Really odd.
This is a chat board so people should put forward their theories for consideration. I suppose part of the issue is that when someone proposes a theory they then seem to want that to be the 'right' one and will then fight for it. Obviously most of these theories are proved to be wrong but as this is an informal debating hall there is no mechanism to go back and tally up who got most right or wrong over the longer term.
And then of course you get 'theories' that are just intended to create a stir. Usually with no factual information involved they predict an outcome such as the FCA will be involved by June. It is difficult to see what this brings to the debate.
Anyhow, the sentiment will rage on for a while and then we will get the facts which will be the real ultimate driver of the value.

Pretty impressive.
IMHO

Agreed PNE. I tell my kids all the time to stop whining (therapeutic parenting they call it) - if you can do something about the problem then do it. If you cant do something about the problem then don't worry about it and don't moan about it.

This person is the worst poster on this BB. I don't even know what he is posting now as I have him filtered but the third party feedback is sufficient to confirm my view.
Why do I say he is the worst poster I hear you ask (or not!). Firstly, he is inconsistent and duplicitous. Second, he is a Grade 1 numpty - compare him with Desert Fox, who was a bugger, but old DF actually knew something about what he was talking about. DF's motives were dubious but at least it wasn't garbage.
Jez has so many mad and crazy ideas based on waffle that it is painful. I truly wonder about anyone who takes him at all seriously!
Anyway, that's off my chest. I know he wont listen (or even care) but if I have persuaded one person at least to reconsider the rubbish he posts then my work in life has been worthwhile.

Just got a mail this morning from my Gas supplier FIrst Utility confirming they are rebranding to Shell Energy as they are now owned by them. Says nothing good about my monitoring of the gas industry that I hadn't picked up on this before but interesting anyway (albeit the interest is also in the electric side). RNS this morning confirms my feeling that there is lots of this sort of news to come out - just my feeling. Need to stop talking to Omar really.
H
I bet you do Fatty
It will be about 12 - 18 months to the LE...…………….
H
You don't want an RNS, you want a full business report of all aspects of what SOU are doing. Get real, this is an update that SOU felt they had to RNS and also to introduce news that suggests things might be going in a positive direction. If you take all the information you have already been given and fit this into it then you should have a pretty good idea of where we are and some likely outcomes but be sure that you will never know all the detail because nobody is going to give you it. You may of course ask questions at the next FSC (?) but I still doubt you will be happy.
Just my thoughts.
H
Indeed, and its Aim O&G so it was always going to be rocky! But JP has been building his status over time and if it works for SOU then I agree it can work elsewhere...………
H
Indeed, and as I say it is a relative situation depending on the direction of the SP. In the scenario of the 11p buyer if he didn't sell at 32p recently but sold on Tuesday he would have made around 10p per share less than he might have. Similarly, if someone sells today at 24p and news comes in that pushes it to 50p then there is that disparity also (and the other option applies if it goes down of course!). Beginning to sound like a treatise on investor attitudes and strategies now so maybe just leave it there! I suppose I am thinking more about those trading shares such as this and their ability to get sellers when little to drive the price other than guesswork...

Always interesting to see the theories on why the SP moves. I wonder about who the winners are here in the movements because there has to be losers to give them the shares to buy.
Losers is of course a difficult term when we have climbed back up from 11p but someone won over the past few days and again someone lost even in relative terms.
I would love to hear more from those share holders that 'lose' money when they make their decisions with this share.
I reiterate, someone has to lose for someone to win...……...I would like to understand their thinking processes
H
I am with you dd. I think we have seen some of the most transparent operational actions for a while. What is going outside of the nuts and bolts work (ie the business and political negotiations) is where the effort is being expended in my view.
All only my view
