The latest Investing Matters Podcast episode featuring financial educator and author Jared Dillian has been released. Listen here.
In today's Guardian biz pages: ACC (Total Energies, Stellantis and Merc-Benz) are opening a Gigafactory in Lens. They will open a string of these across the EU. The factory will produce 800,000 batteries a year and create 2000 jobs. Production will begin this summer (!). Large state subsidies are involved. Jeremy Hunt knows what he needs to do and the situation dictates that he has no choice. We should see a gigafactory signed today and more will HAVE to follow quickly.
Agree. Open plants, prove it works start selling off take.
Buying this morning is not easy. Only getting more in chunks.
I am obv very optimistic about the TM1 potential. I recently opined that I think they will get to 10p at some point.
In the more immediate term, ie, the next 3 months, I would hope to see them at 6p as battery mania starts to finally grip the uk and becomes a central tenet of gov energy strategy.
What are your views?
Everything battery related is about to go right into the public arena.
Jeremy Hunt about the Tata decision. No direct answer as he can't. When the question comes, he is nodding. I would have liked to see the look on his whole face, but I guess that was a giveaway.

Yes. Just heard it while cooking lunch. I noted July 1st for a press event.
I added more and am now happy to wait. Hopefully, the new Tata deal will be signed this week. There will be a scramble to secure the necessary battery metals if it is. As I said before, more factories are needed, and the government will do more deals to get them in the UK. The have no choice. 1. they need some good news and be seen to get on with this essential energy element as we are behind the curve. 2. Because it is absolutely needed on a strategic level for British industry.
In This Is Money today, the article about Tata says that Tesla are looking at a UK giga factory. Could this cause a) uk gov investment in TM1 and b) a bidding war for TM1?
In for a chunk more just now. I think the uk is going to move into the battery age in a big way and Tata will just be the start. Still not signed but Hunt knows he needs to do something significant and NOW is the time.
If Tata sign. Still an if but J Hunt said ‘Watch this space’, they will be looking at supplies of materials to build batteries….
Many countries have been building giga factories for years. Not the UK. Hurrah for Tata! We only have AMTE. They are thinking of moving to the USA. WHAAAAAAT?
Well I did say they would need to do something big and asap. This could be it.
I am planning to add more. With the opening about to happen and the second site coming on line, I see little downside. I think this will hit 10p at some time in the next 9 months.
I think we can now safely assume that the government and the next government are both looking hard at how the uk dropped the ball with battery needs, gigafactories, British Volt failure and essential metals sourcing for the future. The UK will have to create a measure to avoid companies moving the the US due to the subsidies from the IRA. I think TM1 will benefit from this tide with subsidies to move faster with the next sites.
We are moving closer to June. More good news is coming soon.
I think we are on the edge of the growth spurt. One centre to start in c4weeks and another about to get the EA ok.
All the talk in the news is about the uk having missed the boat for battery making. I can see a situation where TM1 gets gov money to speed up the roll out so that they can sell the black mass in the uk. The gov will have to back uk battery makers soon or will will start to lose carmakers and the gov will not allow that as it looks so bad.
Sos management on W&A on Mello Monday this evening at 5pm uk time.
Should be interesting.

That news was at the end of January. Did anyone copy their move?
What are other good Lithium co’s with potential? The Hydrogen play are all stumbling.
It’s very interesting. The uk needs to move fast. The gov had its good intentions burnt on British Volt so will be looking to redeem itself. Kier Starmer visites Ceres plant recently and understands better the issues. Perhaps the conservatives will move faster now in order to plug gaps in subsidies.
Just rewatching the recent LSE VIDEO.
