The thing is, as the average person switches to EVs or HEVs to save the planet air travel continues to increase, so I will be using about £100 per month less in my car and then using about 5000lbs per hour of JET A1. The demand for our North Shore oil will be there for a very long time to come.

I agree you can’t beat the burble of a V8 but Lotus were working on a fix for this back in the ‘80s in the form of artificially reproducing the sound. I saw a test vehicle at their HQ (it was a C3 Covette actually) which they’d fitted with a speaker system that made all the right noises at all the right times but completely artificial. If you didn’t know, you wouldn’t know. The interesting thing was you could choose a V8/V10/V12/Boxter/straight 6/etc. from a switch on the dash. It was actually like science fiction back then.

They will stop making the F-type but it’s successor will be hybrid. Think sleek sportscar with a 3 second 0-60 (or 0-88 maybe)

You are absolutely right Guzzler. The motor industry is moving away from internal combustion engines (and much quicker than you think MikeMike). JLR group will stop making ANY vehicles that are not EVs by 2020! However, the bit that many people forget is that when everyone starts plugging in their car instead of buying petrol/diesel, that huge demand for more electricity needs to be supplied by the power stations. So the hydrocarbon demand will still be there after the gas-guzzler is long extinct 😀

DW has never struck me as someone who tells lies or over exaggerates positive facts to deceive. In fact if I was to criticise the man it would be because he does exactly the opposite of this and plays everything down that is not 100% guaranteed. I don’t write much on here but I read the thread almost daily and I’m here for posts like yours: considered, informative and educated personal opinions. Unfortunately, lately all I’ve read is mostly schoolyard bickering. This is of no use to anyone.
