Iran has threatened to seize a British tanker after Royal Marines held one of their vessels suspected of taking oil to Syria.

Mohsen Rezai, a senior commander in Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards, said on Twitter: "If Britain does not release the Iranian oil tanker, it is the (Iranian) authorities' duty to seize a British oil tanker."

It comes as the crew of the seized ship, Grace 1, are being interviewed by officials.

Oil rebounded as a drop in U.S. gasoline supplies helped crude prices shrug off their biggest decline in a month.

Futures gained 1.9% in New York after the Energy Information Administration said gasoline inventories shrank by 1.58 million barrels last week, about twice the drop suggested by an industry report a day earlier. The encouraging sign for demand helped counter a smaller-than-expected decline in domestic crude stockpiles.

Non-farm payrolls are expected to rise 160,000 in June following a 75,000 gain in May. Private payrolls are projected to add 153,000 workers after the prior month’s 90,000 increase. Manufacturing payrolls are predicted to be unchanged after adding 3,000 in May. Government payrolls at all levels lost 15,000 workers in May.

The U-3 unemployment rate is anticipated to be stable at 3.6%. Averge hourly earnings will rise 0.3% on the month following 0.2% in May and 3.2% on the year, up from 3.1%. The work week will be unchanged at 34.4 hours.

Donald Trump has warned Iran to be “careful with threats” as they can “come back to bite you” in response to Tehran’s vow that it will exceed within days its uranium enrichment level agreed under the 2015 nuclear deal.

President Hassan Rouhani reiterated on Wednesday’s that his country would exceed the enrichment level set out under the agreement in response to failure by other parties to the deal to keep up their promises and provide Iran relief from the US sanctions.

“On July 7, our enrichment level will no longer be 3.67%. We will put aside this commitment. We will increase (the enrichment level) beyond 3.67% to as much as we want, as much as is necessary, as much as we need,” Rouhani told a cabinet meeting.

But experts warn that savers, dazzled by the rising price of gold, should not be tempted to invest too heavily in it, and certainly hold no more than 5 per cent of their savings and investments in the precious metal.

He says savers may choose gold because its performance is not tied to stock markets.

In times of uncertainty it can perform well when other investments are falling in value. But the price of gold always falls in times of prosperity.

U.S. stock index futures rose slightly on Wednesday as investors bet on a potential rate cut from the Federal Reserve later this month after the release of weaker-than-expected economic data.

Around 8:20 a.m. ET, Dow Jones Industrial Average futures indicated a gain of more than 60 points at the open. Futures on the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 also rose.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Wednesday that Tehran will increase its level of uranium enrichment in the next few days "by whatever amount we feel like."

"Our level of enrichment will no longer be 3.67. We will put this commitment aside by whatever amount we feel like, by whatever amount is our necessity, our need. We will take this above 3.67," said Rouhani, according to Reuters, which cited the IRIB news agency.
