The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment of the Region of Murcia, Javier Celdrán, visited last week the works of improvement of the plant of treatment of urban solid waste of Ulea, which will invest 1.3 million euros and which will allow for the reuse of 1,400 tons of additional material per year.
This new action, which will be completed in May 2018, will serve to adapt and adapt the operations of classification of non-biodegradable recyclable waste and implement measures that allow to achieve an individualized monitoring of the efficiencies of the plant, to submit all waste to operations of valorization and that can return to the productive system as 'raw material'.
"We continue to move forward so that the future Regional Circular Economy Strategy guarantees that by 2020, a minimum of 50 percent by weight of domestic and commercial waste will be used for reuse and recycling. That is, we want half of the garbage that is deposited in the green containers to be recovered to give it a new life, once again it is raw material to produce products, "said Celdrán.
This action in the plant of Ulea is part of the Waste Plan of the Region of Murcia 2016-2020, which will be integrated into the Circular Economy Strategy, within the section of Investments for the adaptation of classification operations in treatment of fraction rest for the management of domestic and commercial waste.
This new investment is added to those made in 2010 and 2011 of the compost refinery, in order to have a larger covered area for the preparation of refined compost; and the one executed in 2014 and 2016 for the construction of the new waste treatment plant equipped with two automatic lines of rest fraction and light packaging.
The Minister of Environment said that "we are still advanced in achieving environmental improvement and that the production system is more sustainable, recycling more and reducing the amount of waste that ultimately ends up in landfills, which should be reduced to 10 percent in 2030. "
The regional government created a steering committee of the Circular Economy Strategy of the Region of Murcia that seeks to move from a way of producing linear -design, produce, consume and throw-to another as is the circular -design not to pull, produce sustainably, consume and reuse. The strategy has as its principles to move to a system based on the '9R': rethink, redesign, remanufacture, repair, redistribute, reduce, reuse, recycle and recover energy.
EXTENSION OF THE WASTE PLANT
The new investment in Ulea urban solid waste treatment plant allows to maintain the current treatment capacity of 70 tons / hour during the maintenance work and technical stops of the overhead crane. This increase in plant availability also allows the treatment of waste entering the plant during two possible annual stops for the maintenance of the overhead crane; reduce 18 percent due to moisture loss from the composting process, achievi
