Roundtable Discussion; The Future of Mineral Sands. Watch the video here.
I guess Teresa loves pollution and dependency too much. Get some crude and gas into the marinade...
MKA seem keenest on progressing Songwe. Looks like the MDA is nearly there. MKA have backburnered its rutile in favour of REs even though there's market enthusiasm for rutile (Rio Tinto's stake in SVML eg). PRE has substantially progressed funding of Longonjo (RE Angola).

Minister for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge of Spain
I don't think their transitioning's very convincing.
The general director of the International Energy Agency ("IEA") has said that nuclear energy works in an "impeccable way" and that countries planning to leave the sector, such as Spain and Germany, should "think twice" since the alternatives increase polluting emissions or dependence on third parties.
Fair point. £4 for the paper and there's nothing in it this week. You'd get half a dozen Andrex rolls for that so there's not even an extra cost...
There's a large piece on p15 of todays Sunday Times about the mine the locals and SAV, linking today's election to the corruption in the approvals process.
I don't have a link and didn't learn anything new, but it's there if anyone's interested.
I think the MW Nation article was only saying Malawi was seeking to increase the existing 15% whirlwind tax a bit in the Lotus (and by extension MKA) MDA. The 30% (35-5) rate is known about and not an issue.
Not a great comparable, but having just been reading about it...North Sea O&G energy companies pay 35% windfall tax, have an overall tax burden of 75%, and are still profitable.
I suspect the MDAs will be issued shortly.
Interesting and quite positive imo.
If the only real issues are tax on profits and sourcing chemicals they're probably almost there. Moreover the dramatic-sounding whirlwind tax (which i think equates to our gentler-sounding windfall tax) is "only" icing on the cake stuff applicable if commodity prices really take off so hopefully can be agreed soon. Should have been sorted by now with scaled formulas surely. Important mind where the fiscal regime is all agreed to in advance for several years although everyone will be a winner on the issue. MKA will doubtless be having the same negotiation over REs prices as Lotus are for uranium.
It's coming.
Some Warren Buffett quotes to keep in mind atm.
Price is what you pay. Value is what you get.
A simple rule dictates my buying: Be fearful when others are greedy, and be greedy when others are fearful.
Just buy something for less than it’s worth.
Whether we’re talking about socks or stocks, I like buying quality merchandise when it is marked down.

From PhysicsWorld last year:
One of the most promising and well backed seems to be iron nitride (FeN). Based on just two materials – iron and nitrogen – that are cheap and in plentiful supply, it has a BHmax of 1150 kJ/m3 and a Tc of 540 oC. Firms like Niron in Minnesota, US, are already investing substantially in the area, employing a large and growing number of materials scientists to fine-tune its properties and production.
