Bought £2000 worth of Vodafone stock this morning, at just over 109p, these low prices are a gift that keeps on giving. I'm thinking about where to put my last £5000 dividend reinvestment.

At the risk of sounding like a stuck record, BT is forecast to give an 8p Dividend in the current Financial Year, that's a near 6% yield. Dividend reinvestment could be considered a form of growth, since reinvestment grows your share holdings and future dividends. Yesterday I used over £2,000 in dividends, held in one of our isa's, to top up the BT holding in that account. We're still sitting on over £7,000 Dividends in our other accounts and waiting to top up where we see the most value. I'm not sure dividend paying stocks can be directly compared with non-dividend stocks in a falling market, since one provides opportunities whereas the other is inert.

There was a trade for 89,415,447 shares at a price of 48.245, reported at 13:24:46, there's probably been a mistake in the reporting of a portion of that trade.

Even if it's real, it's an Off-Book trade so not used in setting the On-Exchange price unfortunately.

My guess is it was incorrectly reported to the stock exchange, since it was an off-exchange trade. Probably fat fingers and typo's by whoever passed on the trade information.

It can't be real, who'd pay nearly £193 million for a mere 4,000,000 shares.

That's difficult to say. It's likely a full sale will create a lease liability on the Vodafone accounts, due to rental costs, but it would also inject a significant amount of cash back into the company, and the Tower owner will then be responsible for maintaining the towers, access roads, wayleave's, etc. I would think Vodafone will become an anchor tenant and will negotiate a good forward rental rate at the point of selling the infrastructure. There'll be a higher operational cost for use of the towers, but VOD could potentially save more by reducing debt with the cash from the sale.
My guess is much will depend on how much private equity will offer for a stake. Maybe VOD will decide how much to sell dependent on how much private equity are willing to pay. If a bidding war ensues, and the offer price is something VOD can't resist, maybe it'll be in VOD's interest to sell it off completely. Not sure if there'd be any red flags under those circumstances.

It was a suspicious set of events leading up to the Vodafone takeover of Cable & Wireless Worldwide imo. Gavin Darby leaves Vodafone, becomes CEO of CWW and not long after Vodafone are in talks to acquire CWW.

So Gavin Darby joined CWW in November 2011, having worked at Vodafone for 6 years up to 2008, then within 8 months of starting at CWW, including due dilligence period, Vodafone acquires CWW. Gavin Darby then stays in post up to October "to smooth the transition" and starts his new role as CEO of Premier Foods just 3 months later.
Read into that what you will; Occam's razor suggests that if "an event has two possible explanations. The explanation that requires the fewest assumptions is usually correct".
Was Gavin Darby just extremely lucky? Jumping into a CEO role and within 8 months selling the company to his previous major employer; In the gap period, between working at VOD and starting at CWW, he was only a Non Executive Director at Intertek PLC, so not a major role; Was he then doubly lucky walking into a new CEO role at Premier Foods within just 3 months of fully leaving CWW?

BT currently up 2.41%, I wonder how much of that is Dividend reinvestment. I'll sit on my dividends for a little while to see where prices go over the next week, or so.

The FTSE is currently up over 1%, so probably not a good day to reinvest dividends. A bit of patience may pay dividends later, parden the pun.

The UK had nuclear weapons when Argentina took the Falklands, the US had Nuclear weapons when they went after Afganistan; The use of Tactical nukes is an option, but it's possibly a line countries wouldn't be willing to cross. If Russia did use tactical nukes, who's to say that Nato wont supply Ukraine with a few Tactical nukes in response? If it happens and Russia did use tactical Nukes, it would be the first time in a conflict since WW2.

I don't know what that is. I do remember testing BT interconnect circuits with shelves of cards and each card presenting 2mb G703 on the output, with a copper pair used to carry the circuit between locations; I can't remember the name of the equipment though. That was probably pre 2000, with the 2mb copper pair interconnects eventually replaced with fibre connected equipments. It was a long time ago and I seem to remember thinking it was clever they'd developed something allowing 2mb to be carried a distance over a copper pair, at a time when it was common practice to connect Network site 64kb circuits between PDM's using jumper pairs between MDF's.

Dunno, can't explain that; It doesn't matter to me anyway, because I'll wait a couple of days until any dividend reinvestment washes out and then watch prices for any decent dips below current levels.

Mine aren't, not sure how you've got paid early Suff, the dividend payment date for both BT and Lloyds isn't until tomorrow.

Very little would be my guess, since Lloyds has no significant Eurozone business and is focused mainly on UK banking business.
UK stocks have been getting hammered since the Brexit vote, with analysts finding any excuse to trash investor confidence, but the UK economy has remained quite resilient . The investment media also change the narrative when it comes to various macro policy environments; When interest rates were low they used the NIM's as an excuse to say bank profits were low, and now that interest rates are rising they trash sentiment using loan default risks as an excuse. I would say business and car loans are most at risk, since mortgage holders will fight tooth and nail to save their castle; If car loans default then the car is repossessed, then sold on to recover the unpaid debt, and I would hope that most business loans are secured against something tangible. Personally I think the rhetoric is overblown and the risk to banks is far less than the analysts imply.
Everyone should do their own reasearch and form their own opinions, but I'm not worried about my Lloyds investment, or my other UK investments also currently showing a paper loss.

It's an interesting story, but I'm not sure who their target businesses are. City Centre's like London, Birmingham, Manchester, etc have been Fibred out for over 20 years. In the early days it was multimode Fibre carrying PDH Data, offering rates like 34MB, 16x2MB, and 4x2MB, gradually upgrading to single mode Fibre over time with faster data rates offered.
If Vorboss are offering 10GB and hoping to target Enterprise customers, then they'll have to offer SLA's comparable to BT, Vodafone (Ex Mercury network), and COLT, plus offer the same core IP facilities equivalent to MPLS with other Enterprise services.
If Vorboss are targeting small and medium businesses, then very few would require 10GB access, so would likely require 1Gb or less. When I worked as a Field Engineer the Business SLA's were 4 hour fix for service affecting faults, so Vorboss will have to ensure they can offer the 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year SLA's businesses demand, which isn't cheap. Enterprise Businesses need good SLA's since their business is dependent on reliable connectivity, as they could potentially lose £1000's per hour when offline, and look at the cost of communications as part of the operating costs of doing business. Some will say I have a vested interest in questioning this sort of offering, which I admit I do as a BT shareholder, but what businesses require 10GB access? Do opticians, Doctors, Dentists, small Solicitors offices, Accountants etc, etc, require a fast service to upload and download files, with occasional video conferencing and VOIP calls? The businesses I listed above clearly don't need 10GB access, they might need 1GB access with good SLA's though, especially since their VOIP telephone service will be over their FTTP connection. A dodgy film and porn streaming service, with premises housing servers delivering illegal content might want a cheap 10GB service, where they aren't particularly bothered if the service goes down and isn't restored for days. I have no idea what SLA's Vorboss are offering, but it's an important factor for business customers.

Even though Vodafone's finances are mystical and beyond the understanding of us mere Muggles, you should take confidence from the 80% institutional holding's of the Ministry of Magic.
