More than 30 million US dollars are being invested by the company TZM-Resources in the heavy sands exploration project in Muebase, in the district of Pebane, in the province of Zambézia. Data gathered by our Report indicate that, so far, 10 million dollars have been invested in the importation of equipment, machinery, compensation for the 271 families covered by the project, which occupies an area of ??32 thousand hectares, among other interventions. The director of the company TZM-Resources, Luan Peng, said yesterday, in an interview with our Report, that the exploration area was granted by the Executive to the mining company for a period of thirty years. Our interviewee also said that the production operations themselves will only be able to start at the end of June this year, when the Council of Ministers authorizes the environmental license. The official stated, on the other hand, that the Muebase mining project will have a positive impact on the socio-economic life of the district by creating jobs, particularly for young people; road rehabilitation; construction of water sources, complete primary school; and placement of a mobile phone antenna. Our Report found that the Mue base deposit has a capacity of more than 10 million tons of heavy sands, an ore with wide application in the electronics industry and civil construction. The administrator of Pebane, João Vida, told our Report that the Government and the population of the district are waiting with unusual expectations for the start of the company's activities, since it will be able to contribute to the reduction of unemployment, capture of revenue for the State to finance the public policy. According to João Vida, the project will be developed in two regions, namely in the administrative post of Nabur, where 67 families will be affected; and Mulela, with 205 households covered.
João Vida said that, under the memorandum of understanding signed between the Executive and the company, several social responsibility actions are planned, namely the paving of fourteen kilometers of the main road in the village, acquisition of an ambulance for the administrative post of Mulela, construction of a complete primary school in Muebase, market in Tomeia, opening of twelve boreholes for the supply of drinking water and the granting of thirty scholarships to young local students to attend technical courses. The law on the exploitation of natural resources says that a company's social responsibility is fulfilled two years after the actual exploitation. However, before the start, the company TZM-Resources has already started with social responsibility by awarding seven scholarships to an equal number of students from the Pebane district. The idea is that the graduates can be employed in the mining company after completing their studies.
