In Sydney, Australia, the inaugural session of the Ecuador-Australia Trade and Investment Council was held. In this space, the Executive President of the Chamber of Industries and Production (CIP), María Paz Jervis, was sworn in as President of the Ecuadorian Chapter of the Council; and, for the Australia Chapter, Liam Twigger, President of the SOLGOLD company.
María Paz Jervis is a lawyer and professor, has a master's degree in international relations, and diplomas in community law, and violence and gender justice. She is currently president of the National Federation of Chambers of Industries of Ecuador and pro tempore President of the Council of Ibero-American Entrepreneurs. For her part, Laim Twigger has more than 20 years of Experience in investment banking and corporate finance. In addition, he is vice president and CEO of the company “Argonaut”.
The event also included the participation of the Ambassador of Ecuador in Australia, Arturo Cabrera Hidalgo; the Executive Vice President of the CIP, Pablo Jiménez; the President of the Australia – Latin America Business Council, Richard Andrews; and, members of ALABC. The attendees highlighted the importance of strengthening ties between the two countries in sectors such as education, responsible mining, tourism, renewable energy and gender equality in industry and commerce.
At the first meeting of the Council, it was agreed to permanently exchange information on the bilateral trade and investment relationship, as well as information concerning different products of interest to both countries. Likewise, it was agreed to draw up a roadmap to: establish joint activities in the visits that groups of businessmen plan to make to both Ecuador and Australia this year, cooperate in the participation in international fairs and conferences, and organize joint events to promote opportunities investment and trade in both countries.
