I dont think Canadian miners are a complete bust. They have done very well in the
US, Mexico and South America. There are some special situations too. Like Northern
Dynasty - half a trillion worth of metal discovered in Alaska - same Mkt Cap as GGP -
but having a tough time getting permits - due to Salmon fishing 100 miles downstream.
I look at the politically connected people now buying stock. I put a lot of time in research.
This isnt a pump - I couldnt move the needle on a 1bn mkt cap if I wanted to - buts its an
interesting situation, not least because they also have rare earths in the mix = which will
need to be got at if the US/China situation gets worse ie strategic metals. BUT - looking at
all the options I'm aware of - GGP is my top pick - and is the biggest egg in my basket : )
Does that make any sense ?
Took my kid's child trust fund out of 2 x silver and put it
all into GGP today. I do tend to rush a bit looking through gold
stock websites...I thought NCM had 70 % farm in on ALL the Paterson
targets.... DUH ! It's all making a bit more sense now. A decent strike
at Scallywag...and we're really off to the races !
Thanks Bamps
Thats a very good answer. Its a silly question, but - in your minds eye -
how many ounces COULD we have in measured / indicated inferred etc if things
continue to progress in this exemplary manner...let us say in 2 years from now?
I'm glad everyone willingly accepted some constructive criticism,
albeit of a very mild nature. I am very, very picky about what goes
in my port. I didnt pump anything, but as my own fund manager,
see the need for some diversity. Happy days if GGP is bought out
before Xmas, but surely having a plan of where to park your freshly
minted winnings next isnt such a bad idea ? Sorry if my first introduction
was a bit heavy handed, but - I am interested to know what you can throw
back in my direction - to convince me to buy more ?
Although there is much to like about GGP, the current ounce-in the ground
tally is not very spectacular. Some much smaller cap Stateside stocks - with
100 % control and ownership - have 5-10 m ounces in the ground. Spanish
Mountain gold, International Tower Hill, FreeGold Ventures all come to mind -
I am not plugging any of these - but these ARE all very low valued deposits ,
mostly due to the lesser gram per tonne estimates vs the bonanza grades we
see at Haveiron. This isnt a dig, but just thought I'd point it out to get some
contrasting opinions. The other side of the coin is that the likes of International
Tower Hill and Freegold Ventures have been drilling for much longer than GGP.
The real possibility (in my mind) that we have at Greatland is not that we have a
final and fairly humdrum final score of 10m ounces, but that maybe that the ball will
be hit right out of the park in a year or two from now, when some truly spectacular
numbers like 30 or 40 mil ounces becomes a reality. Who knows ?
The biggest risk to my mining port is not the drill results, nor the metal price per
se, as I see it - the biggest risk is the overvalued US stock market breaking down
as we saw back in March - and even GGP lost 50 % very quickly. I dont forsee another
crash right now - but its a tough call. Markets dont usually crash twice in one year,
the Covid threat is now better understood, and QE next in the US will probably happen
in time to stop any serious damage. At some point - I think the gold stocks will uncouple
from the general market - but we definitely arent there yet, unfortunately.
Hi Guys
I am a uk investor but mainly trade in Canadian small cap precious metal
stocks. A couple of these - like Discovery Metals, Wallbridge Mining , Jaguar Mining
are very promising, but none quite as exciting as GGP. Greatland is my biggest position,
and I am very tempted to lighten my other holdings and add more. I had a good run in
Canadian miners in 2009/10, but got hit pretty hard in the silver bear market that then
followed, so now revisiting an old acquaintance, so to speak. I am very impressed with
the quality of posts on this board, which greatly exceeds - both in quantity and relevance -
the type of posts one finds concerning North American stocks on Stockhouse.com
