This is about Indian coal but the rationale imho applies to the situation in Bangladesh…….India is basically saying they will look at net zero when they become a developed nation many years away,this is where I tear my hair out with Bangla politics trying to green up a nearly net zero under developed nation….it is just not possible without accruing massive debt to implement the green policies

Arguing that there was no economic rationale to shut down coal-based power plants, the Economic Survey on Friday said it was imperative for India to first try and become a developed country by 2047, and then pursue the ambition of achieving net-zero status by 2070.

This carries forward the point made in last year’s Economic Survey, that had asserted that it was “morally wrong” to tell developing countries to abandon their aspirations for better living in order to achieve climate targets, when the developed world was not doing even the bare minimum expected from it.

The Survey said that in view of the continuing challenges being faced in largescale deployment of renewable and alternative sources of energy, there was no reason for India to abandon coal-fired power plants under international pressure, also because most of these plants had substantial life-spans still remaining.

All that being said,good informative article and reinforcing my opinion there is a huge gap in energy supply for cheaper open pit coal in the country……yea it’s run with liberal loons at the moment but coal extraction continues neighbouring our project…the green loons may have a phobia to that product but the country is dotted with some excellent well built super efficient coal powered stations that need supplies for many many years…….closest ever😉

I suspect someone is still getting very fat from that pit as its interests have just expanded…….this is what other politicians are harping about…..there are still palms being greased while the trees are being hugged🙄

Bangladesh Nationalist Party and allies, the 12-party alliance and Jamiat Ulama-e-Islam, on Friday reached consensus, calling for holding national elections by 2025 after completing minimum necessary reforms.

Gentry Beach, a business partner of US President Donald Trump, has expressed interest in investing in mineral and gas exploration in Bangladesh.

Beach, who is in Bangladesh for a one-day visit, conveyed his investment interests during a meeting with political leaders, an adviser to the interim government, and senior officials from the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) at a hotel in Dhaka on Thursday.

As part of his visit, Beach attended a luncheon hosted by BIDA, where he outlined his interest in various investment sectors. “I am here to propose investments, particularly in the development sector. We are keen to invest in Bangladesh, which, under President Donald Trump’s leadership, now offers new opportunities for business, trade, and investment globally,” Beach said.

Jamaat Naib-e-Ameer Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, who also attended the luncheon, confirmed that Beach expressed particular interest in the energy sector, with a focus on minerals and gas exploration in Bangladesh.

The CPD says the business sector was mired in multifaceted problems during the rule of the previous government. A long term initiative is needed to solve most of the structural challenges.

CPD further said it has been six months since the interim government took over. Six months is not enough time to bring any major change. However, the government needs to improve the law and order situation and widen the social safety net programme. The government also should explore the possibility of reducing the price of energy and enhance gas exploration programmes to ensure gas supply in the industrial sector.
