I was thinking last night,if Bangladesh wants to manufacture Chinese solar panels I would think the Chinese have had to raise the issues of baseload energy reliability in the country?……why would China try to produce panels in Bangladesh unless it’s on a par with the very reliable cheap fossil fuel production at home?…..I think Bangladesh has had to answer these questions and deal with it at this mining feasibility seminar……

Yea I know this is over a year old but this is the chairman of Bangladesh bank…..this guy holds the county’s purse strings……..add in Fouzel who is very pro coal and I really think reality is sinking in…..

Like the economy of Bangladesh, its power and energy sector is also suffering from a liquidity crisis. The present interim arrangement for repayment of outstanding bills that the government is pursuing will not last long. These must be made free from subsidy by adopting a comprehensive plan. Besides exploration and extraction of coal and petroleum resources, required initiatives must be taken to increase contributions of solar and other renewable energy. Otherwise, it will not be possible to come out of the deep hole.

M Shamsul Alam: There has been no development in the power sector in a real sense. In fact, it is in dire straits. The cost of power supply has been increased unjustly and unfairly. Power generation has even been decreased in order to cut down on subsidies. The reality is that though there is adequate generation, transmission and distribution in comparison to the demand, there is a power crisis because the standard of capacity development is no maintained. This impacts industrial production. Due to the gas crisis, low cost power generation by the government has decreased. Yet that gas is being supplied to the private sector power plants and power is being purchased from there at high costs. Rather than turning to the extraction and use of our own gas and coal, importance is being given to imported coal, LNG and oil-fire power generation. Over all, the developments in the power sector have strategically planned such a manner which is not at all people-friendly. It promotes looting and high costs.

Just re read that article again and a $15bln investment is a very very sizeable investment in a country that has exhausted all avenues for energy production……..wow if GCM came out with that rns the rarified stratosphere it is!!

Absolutely no other alternative to the imported fuel crisis but using their own resources !!…they have meticulously scrutinised every other option,there’s no money for solar or wind,the fuels costs and demand will be considerably higher just in the term of the next government……the Chinese will help Bangladesh but Bangladesh has to prove it can stabilise its economy because of the huge investments China already has in the country……this is the start of cold reality for Bangladesh…….mining and drilling

Was thinking last night about the protests anti mining in 2006….as it now transpires ministers on the take from imported fossil fuels organised these rallies and I have always believed foreign aid cash funded these hoodlums for hire….that’s now been mostly sorted…as unfortunate as the 3 deaths were you cannot shut down a country’s only way out of an imported fuel crisis…….this cuckoo government still doesn’t want any shape or form of unrest adding to its woes but this is remarkable if it happens they are putting together a framework for a new govt to opencast mine!!…..the partners of Gcm and the Chinese must have really turned the screw…….

Yep…..I will subscribe to that,the market has never been overly generous to Gcm….on the right terms I would sooner partner with a mining engineer/govt than be screwed by vc,s

I would say this is something the cuckoo govt could and would bury if there were options other than own resources,the Trump administration has pushed them into this corner and I will be eternally grateful…….the country (Bangladesh) has to mine it’s own resources…..Fouzel knew it prior to being an advisor to Yunus and so did the chairman of Bangladeshi bank Mansur……..it was inevitable…..today tomorrow…..next month or next yr 👍👍👍

There was no way tang would dilute the company by 50% after 20yrs and so close!!…….someone has applied the pressure and the clues were there!!……..
