If I was a GCM representative or another partner in the project I would be onto this like a rash…….GCM can guarantee quality un contaminated coal with a much higher btu that would seriously reduce downtime and maintenance on the super pits!!!

The contaminated coal investigation gets dirtier 🙄…….if all our ducks aren’t lined up for own resources I will be jumping in a pond this time next year and quacking myself…..

Meghna Group, the supplier of recently discovered heavily soil-contaminated coal, has allegedly adopted illegal means to bypass regulatory obstructions against the unusable supplies and provide these for the Matarbari power plant.

On Saturday last, the Coal Power Generation Company Limited (CPGCL) declined to accept the 63,000-tonne consignment after detecting the soil mixture.

Meghna Group officials are working to pass through the consignment anyway, and allegedly are working to swiflty unload a second shipment of soil-mixed coal, fearing further obstructions.

By Wednesday evening, Meghna Group officials stationed at Chattogram port had ensured the unloading of the entire 70,000-tonne consignment from the new vessel through unfair means, some port workers alleged.

Now the group representatives are also talking about unloading coal from the first ship through whatever means necessary, including influencing the energy ministry.

According to sources, attempts to use contaminated fuel are being taken to shut down the Matarbari plant and put the interim government in a difficult situation

It’s on everyone’s lips coal for development…….the post that got banned this morning was a simple post but obviously rubbed some shorter up the wrong way……..all I made clear was Bangladesh is maxed out with coal powered generation at 12% of the total system requirements……..if phulbari was commissioned tomorrow and churned every drop of its coal into the home market it still wouldn’t be enough to fill the demand from the coal generators……flip over to the renewables and i think Bangladesh has 2%..?? turned over to renewables and a pie in the sky target waaay off in the future that is around 40% maybe 20-30 yrs away…….my argument this morning was very valid and it was the huge gap between coal generation and renewable never the Twain would they meet/crossover or ever step on each other’s toes!!….add in the increase in demand over the next few years and it’s becoming very clear why the interim govt is keen to move on coal

It’s all rather simple to solve but banglas do like a committee or two for even the simplest decision 😂

Very happy Fouzel the energy minister is on the china trip…….I suspect he will explain the new coal policy to his counterparts and I believe there are even Chinese company ceo,s at some of these meetings……

Yunus should come away with his solar promise and Fouzel will imho leave the Chinese with his new coal policy guarantee…..👍👍

Yep…..I think I said months ago,turning coal into solar is the most inefficient transferring of electricity from continent to continent……the world will catch on soon as the solar waste products reach the end of their life…….

Yea agree……imho there will be nothing coming out of Yunus mouth from China….it will be via the back door and His energy minister that will have to reassure the Chinese energy security is coming to Bangladesh…..that’s their guarantee to get the solar manufacturing deal!!……that’s what Yunus will be trumpeting but to get there fossil fuel resources will have to be exploited……that sounds terrible but hold on…..where do the greens and tree hugging muppets think the fuel comes from at the moment??…….a bloody big hole in the ground 3000 miles away in Indonesia!!……. Don’t come much greener than a doorstep resource a hundred times better than imported crap

The pantomime this morning……small repetitive trades……steady at 4% equals orders being filled imho……..plenty of traders sitting on a profit will be looking at the green grass over the fence……

There would be no issue like this with the superior home grown coal in Bangladesh!!…..highlighting the sensitive equipment in these super pits that can be fooked up with dirty fuel

The government has launched an investigation into Meghna Group’s alleged supply of coal mixed with soil for the Matarbari power plant in Cox’s Bazar.

A three-member committee has been formed to determine why Meghna Group, responsible for supplying the coal through its subsidiary Unique Cement, provided contaminated fuel for a sensitive operation like power generation.

Wow someone is working overtime to upset the bb this morning!!

I will just reiterate again…..there is absolutely a huge space in Bangladesh for coal powered electricity generation to thrive alongside renewables……a huge space and imho they will not step on each other’s toes for a generation!!

Yea the market has plenty of tricks to deal from the bottom……..

Traders are predictable creatures and mr market and the mm,s can herd and corral them wherever they put stop signs or pass go!!…..investors are a bit more astute and will be hard to shake after many years of waiting……..interesting months ahead 👍

Snippet from Times Uk last time Phulbari was projected to start…….as has been mentioned here the project was smaller 20yrs ago and a lot more scheme development has happened in the last few yrs……

Japan pumping the cash to finish Matabari……well you would if there was a superior source of own resources opening up shortly?….😂

Meanwhile, Coal Power Generation Company Bangladesh Limited (CPGCBL) has been implementing a Tk 566.94-million project where the GOB is providing Tk 72.21 billion, JICA Tk 479.45 billion and the CPGCBL Tk 15.28 billion from its own fund.

To meet growing electricity demand and to improve the stable power supply of the country the Matarbari power project is being implemented in the coastal Matarbari area of Maheshkhali Upazila under Cox's Bazar district.

The project will be completed in December 2026. Up to February 2025, physical progress of the project is 92 per cent and financial progress is 86 per cent, ERD officials said.

JICA is providing assistance for this project in different phases. It has already provided JPY 655,310 million in 7 tranches.

Under this 8th tranche of the 45th Japanese ODA loan package, JICA confirmed JPY 57,120 million equivalent to US$ 388 million on Tuesday.

The officers categorically stated their intention to return to barracks after general elections, expected by December, a 12-18 month timeframe suggested by the army chief last year.

Yunus is not going to like the army presence in Dhaka…..he was warned weeks ago by Wakkar the general to tidy up these loose ends with disorder…..Wakkar wanted the election in December and voiced it in no uncertain terms…..he could see the discipline crumbling and business swerving Bangladesh like the plague…….hoping the troops in the capital have encouraged this old cuckoo to get some democracy restored……that would be fab for business and investment in the country
