Ryanair gives pilots an ultimatum

Ryanair has written to its UK pilots saying they could face losing their jobs unless they take unpaid leave or transfer overseas, The Guardian reports. The firm claims to have a "significant surplus of pilots" at bases such as Stansted and Manchester and is encouraging them to take up to a year's unpaid time off. The memo sent to staff referenced the collapse of Thomas Cook and its resulting job losses, adding: "...we hope that there will be sufficient applications for unpaid leave/part time, so we do not have to resort to job losses."
