SHARE OF THE WEEK: Marks & Spencer rejoining FTSE 100

Phoenix Group said that in the first half of 2023, its incremental new business long term cash generation more than doubled to GBP885 million from GBP430 million a year before. The insurance provider also said new business net fund flows jumped 72% annually to GBP3.1 billion from GBP1.8 billion. Phoenix said it is now on track for positive group net fund flows from 2024. It now expects to deliver at the top end of its GBP1.3 billion to GBP1.4 billion guidance range for cash generation in 2023. For the interim period, it raised its dividend by 4.8% to 26.0 pence. It will release IFRS financial statements next Thursday. "Our impressive first half performance has enabled the board to declare an Interim dividend that is a 5% year-on-year increase and executing our strategy will support us in delivering a dividend that is sustainable and grows over time," Chief Executive Andy Briggs said.

IG says futures indicate the FTSE 100 is to open up 25.0 points, 0.3%, at 7,698.08 on Friday. The index of London large-caps closed up 147.09 points, or 2.0% at 7,673.08 on Thursday. So far this week, it has added 2.6%.

I am pleased FTSE is having a very good day, EMG not bad either .

It proposed no dividend payment, having paid out 7.6p the prior year. It said it aims to restart dividends once two conditions are met: firstly, when capital coverage improves to the upper end of its agreed range, and secondly, when it returns to organic capital generation in Motor. It also announced the sale its brokered commercial insurance business to RSA Insurance, a subsidiary of Intact Financial Corp, for a GBP520 million initial consideration, with a potential further consideration of up to GBP30 million. It also estimates a capital release of up to GBP270 million.

Looks like FTSE 100 on a rally mood again ,trading for me then

Midas verdict: The FTSE 100 index of Britain's largest listed companies is forecast to deliver annual income of 4.1 per cent this year. At £1.91, M&G shares offer a yield of more than 10 per cent and the prospect of long-term growth. Buy and hold.

And M&S also intends to restart dividends in November after suspending payments in April 2020.
