Honda unveils its next generation hydrogen fuel cell: Half the cost, twice the durability 🇯🇵⚙️⚡️

Honda has pulled the wraps off its next-generation hydrogen fuel cell module, promising a leap forward in cost, durability, and efficiency.

Announced at the H2 & FC EXPO in Tokyo on Wednesday, the new system slashes costs in half while doubling durability compared to its predecessor.

It’s also three times more power-dense, making it significantly more compact and flexible for integration into different platforms.

Next-gen hydrogen fuel cell: What’s new?

Honda has been working on hydrogen fuel cells for decades, and this latest module is a shift away from its previous collaboration with General Motors (GM).

This one is all Honda, designed and built in-house, and it will enter mass production in 2027.

Headline specs include a 150 kW output, a 450-850V voltage range, and a maximum efficiency of 59.8%.

It’s also smaller – Honda has increased volumetric power density threefold, meaning more power in less space.

That makes it far easier to package in everything from vehicles to stationary power units.

Speaking of which, Honda isn’t just thinking about cars. The company is also rolling out its Fuel Cell Power Generator, a stationary hydrogen-based power supply designed for factories, offices, and other large facilities that need zero emissions power on demand.

This unit will enter production a year earlier, in 2026, and promises near-instant power delivery within 10 seconds of startup.

For years poor old Haggis kept bleating on about how he was alright Jack because he bought in dirt cheap years ago at under 3p and he was massively in profit as he had still multi bagged…but then he piled in at >20p with his inheritance ! No wonder we rarely hear from him now as he’ll have to cancel his early retirement plans as it looks like it’s heading back to its low of 2p.

Come on NN, the technology is ready is hardly the same as a finished product is ready for sale. Have you not learnt anything following AFC for all these years ? The technology is ready simply means they have a working prototype.

NN, your valuation of the cracker is based on information provided by Bond, the same person who said we have a £26m order book. Let’s see what Wilson values it at. I can guarantee whatever Bond said about the cracker will turn out to be massive porkies.

Bond basically made it up as he went along, copying everything Geopura were doing, but doing it badly. We still have a relationship with TAMGO, if the S+ is any good and value for money we should see some sales to them.

Looks like we picked a dud as these guys are managing to win plenty of business, shame on all those who never questioned Bond, and who never saw through his BS.

Tremendous to see the #Hydrogen #CleanPower economy in action. At this site visit to GeoPura hosted by CEO Andrew Cunningham, Alistair Gemmell and their excellent team. I first met GeoPura in 2019, when they were demonstrating this technology and it is impressive to see the progress and significant investment made to scale this up.

Behind us in the picture are four electrolysers producing green hydrogen, which is transported by road in specially adapted hydrogen transport tube trailers to sites across the country. The hydrogen provides clean power through the GeoPura Hydrogen Power Units (fancy large-scale fuel cells) in various applications requiring off-grid or partial off-grid power. It's tremendous to see that this circular business model works even before scaling the technology further brings prices down.

Should be NN not CN, we know all that, they’ve been advertising the power tower for over 2 years but nobody wants them, and the 30kW for over a year and nobody wants those either !

Funny that Balfour Beatty have challenges getting hydrogen to site but when Bond replied to a question I raised at a previous investor meet regarding hydrogen availability he just waved his hand and a sweeping statement that hydrogen is the most abundant element in the universe. And still the Ubers didn’t twig that Bond was clueless.
