RE: Vessel for the tow back??3 Jul 2018 19:48
To be honest Ken, from what I know of drydocks (done at least 20), theyll have a tally board somewhere on the dock wall with a countdown to sail away displayed. The team on board will be looking at the ever approaching date and thinking to themselves, "No chance" but its amazing how it all seems to come together in the last few days.
Bear in mind once sea trials are completed, and i dont know if they have to do a new inclining experiment to calculate the vessels new stability characteristics. It depends on the amount of steelwork removed/replaced/added so im not sure.
Theres many hurdles to cross before they leave drydock but they wont be fully operational 100% when they do leave as they have a good few weeks en route to sort out the teething problems and there will be lots, from anemometers wired in the wrong way around to small bore tubing connected to wrong kind of fittings.
These issues will become apparent even 2 years after leaving dock so dont expect a new FPSO when she leaves as it will be far from it.
Im hoping for leaving July/August which allows for a foo-foo factor of things going awry between then and now. Now point rushing it though if its not ready, as its far easier to fix it here than out on station
