I don't think BH could have been kept on in any capacity if they had found a big accounting mistake or other balls up imo.
He would have been gone totally instead of being kept on for a smooth handover.
I too reckon that those large share purchases was, shall we say some insurance for the inevitable boot they must have known would come.
