Looks good checking the seating plans.

When I did a check on the system then it was the same. 30+ people, that was just for Back to the Future & Batman. Yesterday it was 20+ across about 8 different films.

I've done what I should've done in the first place and run a few checks on the booking system...

The only requirements Cineworld have is to leave 2 seats left or right and not to leave a single seat unoccupied anywhere, for example at the aisle or against a wall. Rows need not be left unoccupied.

My other concern is closed cinemas increase the weight of seat occupancy across the rest of the group. Though this may be offset with reduced costs because they're closed but I'd be interested to know the average cash burn per closed cinema.

Sorry... My calculations are flawed - 2 people require 12 seats unoccupied.... So 2/14... I completely forgot the diagonally placed seats.

Also I revised my maximum figure (estimate) from 25-30% to take into account shared vacant seats between bubbles. But after doing a quick plan it is closer to 25% with the diagonally placed seats remaining vacant.

You haven't halved your rate of seat occupancy. If you fill every row from left to right a whole row would need to be left vacant in front of them.

If 2 seats are occupied there's a requirement for a minimum of 6 seats to be left vacant if they are positioned in a centralised manner.

Obviously the larger the group the lower the % rate of vacant seats per group. The problem you have is dividing that group over a fixed number of seats and still maintaining the social distancing requirements.

A row with 10 seats with 3 groups of 3 does not work, you then need to move the 3rd group to another vacant row. The first 2 groups would then need to leave a total of 14 seats empty to comply. So 6 people occupy 20 seats.

Groups of 2 would occupy seats 1,2,5,6,9,10 - again 6 requiring 14 seats to be left empty. All the above are calculated on a rear row already being unoccupied (or simply the back row)

A single individual requires 10 seats to be left unoccupied.

With a perfect model you could get to around 30% occupancy but as the seating arrangements are left to customers selecting their position, and you get a area within a cinema that's a 'hotspot' - aisle seats at approximately a 3rd of the way back - you create occupancy wastage.

My calculations aren't flawed - they take into account the legal requirements for seating plans that are available online and have been issued to UK cinemas. They are required by law to leave a 1m plus radius with risk mitigation around any bubble.

The seating pattern rejects allocation if you choose a seat 2 seats adjacent to another occupant from a different party.

I believe the maximum occupancy would be around 25% if seats were allocated in a perfect manner.

The lower the smaller the number in a group would only mean an increase in the about of empty seats required and therefore further limiting occupancy.

I might just switch off tomorrow.

Also, I think the calculations are way off on the other post. They're not taking into account maximum possible capacity where social distancing is required between occupants (25% in the UK?) and that any closure of a cinema increases the required occupancy levels across the rest of the business. I didn't want to be a negative nelly but I had to point that out.
