Mooky doesn't strike me as a bull****er but incoming news is highly speculatory. I even think there'll may be no official announcement of anything and he is eluding to the general news of cinema performance.

News could be anything from - "Hey, we're still here AND open!" to "We're buying Cineplex and merging with Disney... You all get £8 a share!”

If we look back at the posts over the last few weeks, apart from today, COVID has been very low on the list of issues. The focus is now firmly on the VOD or CINE question - In my eyes it's cut and dry - I defended CINE over in BOO the other day on exactly the same thing.

Comparisons are made between VOD and CINE as them being the delivery of the media - but it is more like VOD and buying a Blu-ray is the correct comparison when looking at the rise of VOD.

CINE is a venue in which the medium is delivered in a manner that is not like what can be achieved within a home setting.

I'm still unsure as to what comparison can be made to Cinema... whether it's closer in comparing listening to a record played by a DJ in a night club versus seeing the actual l artist live but that still doesn't feel as though it is a good or close either. Theatre and movies are too far apart also...

I've given up on it and I'm resigned to the fact that there is no alternative to the cinema experience... Home cinema is just a big telly with some fancy speakers. You don't invite random people into your home to enjoy a movie for the first time, and I think this is truly what is magic about it - Hearing that roar - that planet explode - that bone break - and knowing that people you know nothing about are sharing the same emotions, a social interaction that is brought out of us all watching the same thing, at the same time.

I've casually increased the amount I've been talking about going the cinema over the last few months...to the extend I'm doing reviews on Whats-App group we're all in to 'encourage' interest.

I don't believe the virus is going anywhere. I believe that just like every other issue thrown at us, we as a species will just move on.

We are a social species and it's not in our nature to continue as we are at this moment. Virus' evolved to take advantage of that, we aren't about to reverse 100,000 years of social and biological evolution because ANOTHER viral threat has turned up.

Next, use your SIPP if you are in a position to do so, but you obviously can't withdraw till later in life... I have small holdings in funds ticking over - maily tech and pharma and 3 amounts I move between growth shared if possible.

Outside of an ISA you cannot sell then reinvest and avoid tax. You are selling one item and buying another with the profit. Tax is due on profit unless it can be offset against other items or absorbed by your allowance.

It may be / is cost effective to sell shares every tax year that includes profit up to the tax free amount - it's a use it or lose it scenario.

Seek GOOD professional advice. I have an accountant. It's worth it if your looking at making decent money.

Yes mate, I'm not pooh-poohing your idea but I personally fail to see a situation in the UK where without alcohol sports events will be a 'good' idea.... We will simply get leathered, wrecked the cinema and it'll be shut down. It always happens. Fill it with 15-30 year olds with a sweet tooth playing games though... Winner all day in my eyes, the industry needs to mature a little more, though now is the time to grip the bull by the horns.

The PPV event market would be a good idea but I would be hesitant about it with live sports (in the UK) as they don't serve booze as a rule...

...the only exception is the one I'm still excited about sand that's as an e-sports venue. A cinema is effectively a purpose built stadium and one of the reasons I was excited about the now failed merger with Cineplex for to their current business interests in the industry.

E-sports is a growing industry and I believe will just get stronger. I honestly believe if this market is tapped on a local/national eague level the relationship between cinema and event organisers is potentially highly lucrative.

In regards to Disney - I would jump at the chance. I would tie up all future Disney movies as time limited exclusives, Disney stores in every cinema, and the new TV shows - Mandalorian, Wandavision, Loki etc etc, those with a cinematic vision I would again screen as a time limited release pre-general release on Disney+. Get the Marvel / Star Wars geeks paying extra on the door and paying for concessions to have bragging rights that they viewed it a) in the cinema on a MASSIVE screen in 4dx & b) before everyone else who saw it as part of their subscription service.

The Regal listing showed a few states with staggered opening, of which I noticed Florida for example, was due to open cinemas on 3 seperate dates and is still opening cinemas as we go.
