RE: Wizz woos business travellers with empty middle seats28 Oct 2025 16:55
I don't think it's all that bad at all, at least they try to improve
Wizz Air is trialling a new service dubbed “Wizz Class”, beginning December 2025 on selected routes (including from London and Budapest).
The idea: passengers who have already paid for extra legroom will be offered the option for an additional fee to book the middle seat beside them empty, giving more space without going into full “business class” territory.
Other included perks: faster boarding in this trial. Free food or drinks are not part of the package, at least initially.
Why Wizz Air is doing this
Business travellers currently make up less than 5% of Wizz Air’s passenger base. The airline sees an opportunity to grow that segment.
The airline’s route network has expanded (incl. more frequent services, day-return options) which suits business travel patterns.
It’s a shift away from pure “ultra-low cost” model in some respects: rather than offering full business class, they’re offering a premium economy-lite option (more space, less cost).
This is a trial—only on selected routes and seats (front rows, extra-legroom seats) initially.
It doesn’t turn into a full business class service (no lounge access mentioned, no free meals as yet).
While the middle seat is blocked (for the paying passenger), that means fewer sellable seats → cost/benefit needs to work out.
