"as long as they give the impression of maintaining momentum and local spending on the project they’ll keep the licence"
For the Southern Rukwa (Songwe Helium) project, Helium One has already committed to licence payments and initial rental on the large mining licence area, and has started mobilising rigs, ESP equipment and site works, all of which involve contracts for local services, logistics and site infrastructure.
The company and Tanzanian government have agreed a JV framework (Songwe Helium Ltd) and a 17% government free‑carried interest, which means as the project moves into development the bulk of mine, plant and road/power infrastructure spending will be anchored in Tanzania and should materially benefit the local and regional economy.
