The test is designed to quickly and accurately identify key genetic variants of the CYP2C19 gene using a non-invasive cheek swab. This is particularly important for patients who are prescribed clopidogrel, a medication used to reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke, as certain variants in the CYP2C19 gene can affect the drug's efficacy. The Genedrive® test provides results in approximately 70 minutes, allowing for rapid clinical decision-making.
The UK National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) has recommended the Genedrive® CYP2C19-ID test as the preferred point-of-care test for guiding clopidogrel use in patients who have experienced an ischemic stroke or transient ischemic attack.
This recommendation underscores the test's potential to improve patient outcomes by enabling more personalized and effective treatment plans.
Validation and Comparison with Laboratory Tests: The accuracy of the Genedrive® CYP2C19-ID test has been validated through the DEVOTE programme, where its results were compared with those from reference laboratory platforms. In cases of disagreement, a third laboratory platform was used to resolve discrepancies, further validating the test's accuracy.
