RE: Why GRex?26 Feb 2026 11:43
Hemogenyx Pharmaceuticals (LSE: HEMO) has recently secured sufficient funding to extend its operational runway into Q3/Q4 2026. This latest capital raise of £2.5 million (announced in February 2026) supports the continuation of its Phase I clinical trials for HG-CT-1, the Company's lead CAR-T therapy targeting relapsed/refractory acute myeloid leukemia (R/R AML) in both adult and pediatric patients.A notable aspect of the Company's ownership structure is its relatively high proportion of retail and private individual holdings. Platforms such as Hargreaves Lansdown (HL) reportedly hold around 20%, Halifax/BBOS-related entities approximately 10%, and certain private shareholders (including David Smith) around 7-8%, based on recent notifications and breakdowns. This contrasts with many clinical-stage biotechnology companies, which typically attract higher institutional ownership from funds and larger pharmaceutical players once they advance into human trials and meet key milestones. The limited institutional presence can result in greater share price volatility, as there is less consistent "buy-side" support to absorb market fluctuations or provide a stabilizing influence during periods of low news flow. Interestingly, despite an absence of major announcements over the past several months, trading volumes and available liquidity have remained modest, with limited evidence of widespread retail selling pressure or loss of interest. While clinical and regulatory risks remain inherent—such as potential trial delays, suspension, or hurdles in progressing to later stages—positive developments in the coming weeks or months could position the stock for meaningful upside, given the early-stage nature of the program and the therapeutic potential in AML.As existing private shareholders, we continue to view Hemogenyx as an attractive opportunity at current levels and are evaluating further exposure on behalf of discretionary accounts. This is not investment advice; as always, thorough due diligence and consideration of individual risk tolerance are essential.
