I think Debs are getting around it by defaulting to a gift voucher, but if the client chooses they can select a card refund. They are obviously just hoping not that many people notice and once its gone through you cant change it. I am sure (without checking) there must be a disclaimer in very small print stating this at the time.

From very recent experience Sports Direct WILL NOT give a cash / card refund for any in store purchases unless faulty. They literally wont budge on it and have cards displayed at the till stating this. Any online purchases can get refunded to the same payment method.
