Ebioss Energy has signed two agreements with state-owned China Energy China for the construction of two gasification plants Derived Fuel Waste (RDF for its acronym in English) from municipal solid waste (MSW) for the production of electricity and thermal.
Both plants, to be located in the English towns of Newcastle and Hull, involve a joint investment of 170.6 million euros, the company said in a press release.
These projects are the first within the framework agreement signed by both companies last May in Beijing (China) in order to develop RDF gasification plants in the UK.
The UK is a market with great potential due to industry conditions, says Ebioss. In the UK, every year, three million tons of RDF are exported for disposal.
The company says that the cost of this activity involves about 400 million euros per year that can be seen halved with the construction of gasification plants with the technology itself Ebioss Energy.
The first gasification plant, Catfoss, located in Newcastle, will have an electrical output of up to 12 megawatts (MW) and a treatment capacity of up to 72,000 tons of MSW per year.
Catfoss represents a total investment of 62 million euros (53 million pounds), the financing will be 25% by 'equity' and 75% as 'project financing', through a designated Energy China financial institution.
The second project, known as Hull and located in the town of the same name, will have an electrical output of up to 20 MW and the capacity to treat up to 120,000 tonnes of MSW annually.
Hull represents a total investment of 108.7 million euros (93 million pounds), the financing will be structured through 25% of 'equity' and 75% as 'project financing', by a Energy financial institution designated by China.
Of the total of 'equity' invested in both projects, 51% will be contributed by Chinese investors, 20% by the local project developer and 29% by Ebioss Energy or an investor designated.
According to the signed by Ebioss Energy agreement and the Chinese state company, Energy China will be responsible for building projects through two EPC contracts and subcontract EQTEC Iberia subsidiary Ebioss Energy, to implement its EGT technology (EQTEC Gasifier Technology ).
The signed agreements are legally binding and its implementation is subject only to the positive performance of a 'due diligence' legal, financial and technical.
