Condor Gold Begins Construction of the La India Mine in Nicaragua
May 7, 2025
Santa Cruz de la India (León) – Condor Gold Nicaragua, a wholly owned subsidiary of Metals Exploration, is pleased to announce that it has begun construction of infrastructure for the new La India Gold Mine (the "Project") in Nicaragua. The project will mark a historic milestone in the development of sustainable mining in Nicaragua.
The official inauguration ceremony for the start of construction of the Project was attended by special guests including Condor Gold executives, Condor Gold Nicaragua employees, leaders from the Nicaraguan mining and economic sectors, and important representatives from the municipal mayors of Santa Rosa del Peñón and El Jicaral, in the department of León.
During the ceremony, Mr. Darren Bowden, CEO of Condor Gold, gave a speech in which he highlighted the importance of the La India Mine and emphasized the company's commitment to sustainable development, ensuring long-term environmental, social, and economic value for the communities surrounding the Project and for the country as a whole. The project aims to provide a positive benchmark for the future of mining in Nicaragua and the Central American region. An additional investment of US$160 million is estimated to be spent on initial mine development and the completion of construction of the La India mine, which includes administrative offices, a mining camp, a processing plant, leach tanks, a tailings dam, and waste dumps. The La India mine is expected to begin production in December 2026. In his speech, Darren Bowden explained that during the construction phase, the project will employ up to 1,600 people. Once operational, the Project will generate approximately 1,000 to 1,200 jobs in Nicaragua.
"We are proud to deliver this important project, which will have a highly positive impact on the development and economic growth of the surrounding communities and the entire Nicaraguan nation," said Mr. Bowden. Condor Gold Nicaragua Country Manager Aiser Sarria reported that, to date, the company has invested more than US$40 million in environmental and geological studies, exploration work, and a series of social, environmental, and economic programs to benefit the communities surrounding the La India Mine.
In particular, the Community Training Program, which began in June 2021, continues to promote the participation of young professionals in the Project.
