"Hi Chesh
The hemp seed market is considerably more competitive than it was last year. It's a high value crop and it is no surprise to see further participants - Zoetic of course is an example. However, we were prepared for that and Covid-19 is having no more particular effect on the hemp seed market than it is on any industry. Businesses are short of cash and so are restricting purchases to those areas they consider essential and, in times of economic uncertainty, human nature is to reduce risk. So, for example, a corn grower who might previously have been considering diversifying into hemp may feel now is not the time. Or a hemp grower that was preparing to pay a premium to feminised seeds may now take their changes on a bag of regular seeds.
On a "price per seed" basis, hemp is an expensive crop and many farmers may feel cautious about taking that risk or they may prefer to stick with something they are more familiar with and feel could have a wider market appeal (hence the corn example).
To date, travel bans have not been a problem for us and neither is there any restriction on seed trading. We know we have a good quality product and we are doing what we can to be creative with the growers we contact and the payment terms we can offer. The selling task is going to be a lot harder than we planned for a few weeks ago but we remain firm in our belief that demand is there if we work to find it.
And, yes, you are welcome to post this on the bulletin boards.
Kind regards
Nick
