Oil is an insulator, but so it water in it pure form............!
It's the impurities that conduct...........!
I've seen a 3ph motor full of oil after a failed gearbox seal, just ran at a higher load, cos of the gearbox mechanically failing
Also, you could watch a TV work perfectly well in water, provided is DM water (pure, no salts :)
