And the markets can keep on messing about all they like, dumping the oil price and hence oiler share prices on any sniff of OK news, with the predictable reversal to follow moments later when some chump fires a rocket. They are loving it, and making a fortune off it too.

So the markets initially knock 10 billion quid off BP's value because we've fired some schmuck was had little to zero impact on the company's output and performance, on the grand scale of things. Joke territory. The SP shouldn't have moved 0.5% let alone almost 10%.

Lets not forget that almost 20% of shareholders voted to oust him at the recent AGM. This sacking is non news and doesn't matter one bit.

Keep him sacked and donate his inflated salary to an abuse charity.

Just filled up the hire car in Spain with 95. It should have been 1.74 a litre, so £1.50.

But since the Spanish Governement don’t just blame the oil companies for their windfalls, they reduce the price at the till ton 1.54. So £1.33.

Why don’t Labour do the same and give up some of their extra windfall on fuel tax?

There's also no question about the ongoing meddling in oil shared during intraday trading. FTSE100 shares don't lose/gain 1% in seconds, over and over and over during the day like oilies have for weeks now.

Somebody's making a killing on those wild swings.

I’m in no way pro Iran or any of those ‘opposing’ nations. But at the end of the day, if your country has been bombed and you’d lost your home, wife and kids, wouldn’t you hate America and Israel?

Trump must want them to be both nuclear free and also under new, western polite leadership too, or it will never end.

A prolonged campaign is coming IMO, and the markets will milk it to the high heavens. Big drops on the sniff of the straight being opened, and the opposite too. The uncertainty is what traders love.

Iran’s only card is their assaults on the straight, and that will be risky waters for a while, hence the high oil prices will continue for a bit.

Spights, the only way this all ends on Trumps terms, ie no nukes in Iran and Hesbollah going away, is regime change to a western friendly. And with that probably means western oil investment/profit too.

And the only way that happens is boots on the ground and a long campaign as the bosses are all hidden deep underground.

The Straight is the only chip that Iran have and currently they are winning as all it takes is a couple of armed drones a day to scare people off using it.

The question is, when do you sell, and when will it fall back to 550 instantly once Trump stops messing about and realises that he's bitten off more than he can chew without a full scale invasion with boots on ground, ie a real war not a one sided attack, which I+'d suggest he doesn't want to happen.

Well, the lefty muppets know just as well as the toff wing rights, that the UK can only impose windfall tax on money which BP make in the UK/the North Sea. So about 2% of their entire income.

BP already pay well over 50% tax on that income, to fund schools, hospitals and new roads for all to benefit from, along with scrapped childbearing caps for people who cant budget, free hotels for overseas sailors, and missiles for Ukraine, etc etc. It's as if peopel want to own a slice of BP and enjoy the good times, without even bothering to buy shares isn't it?

I'm really not sure how you can tax the north sea income any more than at present to be honest... but then the politicians all know that too. It's purely about making themselves look like socialist good guys to appease their voters and protect their own 6 figure salaries. It's funny how none of them cared one bit when BP were laying off staff, making deflated profits and struggling a bit for the last 2 years. Utter mugs.

I count 14 of of them flicking from 570 and 578, in 2 hours. That's a 20% gain for those who sold at 578 and then rebought at 570, over and over with automated trading.

It's a huge scandal. FTSE100 shares shouldn't move like that.

Since the whole Iran invasion started, this and other oil shares have been played massively.

Look at today starting at about 13:10; 1.5% spikes and then instant fall backs, over and over, for nothing. Its just rinse and repeat 6 or 7 times, with those in the know making a nice easy 10% of this in no time at all.

It should be investigated, but it wont be.

Happy to have sold 25% of my holding at 599.5 and then repurchased them at 550. It’s only 2.5% profit on the whole holding but it’s 2.5% for 4 clicks at the end of the day. I’ll have another bulk sell if they get back up to around 600 again should Trumps agreement fail, which I don’t think it will to be honest. Iran were never coming out of this well.

I firmly think the the days of 450 and under are gone now anyway. We were massively undervalued before all this kicked off so hopefully we can work at sustaining 500+ for a while now.

Interesting to see the FT describing buybacks as 'shareholder payouts', which of course they are not, as much as the intention is to boost shareholder value, by increasing the value of their shares due to there being less in circulation. But 'payouts', they are not.

Personally Im glad to see the end of buy backs as they led to zero SP growth in years, and the billions spent on them would have much better served via paying off debts, which is exactly what we should be doing during the current times of inflated oil prices.

You've got to love all the 1-2% spikes and dips which instantly reverse themselves.

As far as I could see they were giving the SP zero lift over the years. 1% in buy backs should directly increase the value of existing shares by the same. But how many billions have we piled into buy backs for years only to see us become even more undervalued as a result.

Time to bin them off and pay that debt pile off faster. It’s a long overstayed millstone.
