He announced he'd found in a company report that they were pulling out of Alaska due to it being uneconomic. Worried at this, I located the report and discovered this was in their 'history of the company' section and was a decade or so previously, whereas they were pushing ahead as the economics had completely changed. I posted this soon after, but we never heard from him again!

Actually this is due to their loans and the risk of default. The lenders hold short positions as a hedge to PMO failing to repay debt.
