If the government brings in a cap of £50-60 per mwh, it would be a disaster for most of the smaller renewables generators and for investment in the sector. There should be two choices, a cap similar to the eurozone , around £160. Or a cap and collar, or fixed rate of around £80/£90 plus rpi, similar to Hinckley. I suggest that they will go for the latter, everybody will have a good lunch and they’ll kick the can down the road. However, the idiots running this country are fools, so anything is possible.
