I am not sure I entirely agree. The LSE certainly specialises in teaching economics. There seem to be plenty of students who read PPE. Certainly the independent schools teach history. Of course from what view point so often written by the victors.
In Italy where I live history is taken seriously, economics is a common topic although sadly the Italian economy is a shambles. There are no red top newspapers and serious conversations on tv unlike anything in UK.
In Germany they have oly been teaching the history of fascism and Nazism for 5 or 6 years. There is still a Mussolini family member in the Italian parliament. Certainly Italians like talking about politics. Their mps all have an official car, 2 if a minister. Pay is huge and continues for life apparently.
