Eleven Corbynite backbenchers - plus ostracized former leader Jeremy Corbyn - signed a letter from the Stop The War Coalition accusing the UK of 'inflaming tensions' by arming Ukrainian troops and blaming Nato for provoking the autocratic Russian leader.

The letter saw them branded a ''a disgrace to the nation' today - as they belatedly and shamelessly turned on the Russian leader for pouring thousands of troops into Ukraine.

This afternoon the party leadership, which has backed Nato action and called for stronger action against Putin, told the group to withdraw their support or they would lose the Labour whip.

They all capitulated quickly, with a source saying: 'An hour after being told to, all these grandstanders have withdrawn their signatures. Let there be no doubt whose party this is now.'

The letter was signed by Diane Abbott, John McDonnell, Richard Burgon, Ian Lavery, Beth Winter, Zarah Sultana, Bell Ribeiro-Addy, Apsana Begum, Mick Whitley, Tahir Ali, and Ian Mearns.

Former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn also signed the letter, as did MP Claudia Webbe, both of whom now sit as independents.

What is the size of the UK Army and Armed Forces?

As of 1 October 2021, the “trained strength” of the British Army is 77,526 personnel, 29,688 in the Royal Navy and Royal Marines, and 29,913 in the Royal Air Force.

That gives a total of 137,127 in the UK Armed Forces.

This total will however be cut by around 2,000 to achieve a smaller Army as envisaged in ‘Defence in a Competitive Age’ command paper.

The target is to cut the Army, which has already been slashed back, by nearly 5,000 to 73,000. The Navy and RAF would increase in size slightly, to 30,450 and 31,750 respectively.

Infantry, the “close combat” troops at the “core of the Army” - some of whom are stationed in Estonia to protect NATO allies, are falling by a fifth.

Tory ministers admit their numbers will drop from 24,940 in 2010 to 19,400 in 2024/25.

Think they may need to reconsider cuts now…

When saw Chernobyl on the Top Gear episode, the radiation there was still through the roof. Wind blows the wrong way , then more harm could come to the Russians than the envisaged.

If our Government does not do a huge u turn and stop pandering to green energy and reinstall some military might then we might stand a better chance than Ukraine on any invasion fears. Russia does not abide by any rules then unfortunately the rest of the world will have to follow. Gone will be the days of scraping nuclear deterrents again and pity the countries that do not have any defence against dictators.
UK needs to reinvest in its own infrastructure and turn the clock back to when Maggie shut it all down …hence I feel RR. will be a safer stock to sit in whilst this pains out for the military side at least.

Oilers the only thing on my Google finance watchlist not to be dropping rapidly… Eua 33% down already… military and fuel stocks to rise as did covid stocks in the pandemic. Expecting leisure to drop massively and anything involved in the Baltics too… think Britain needs to re open its steel works and coal mines and focus on our own infrastructure for fuels now..Fish prices also gone through the roof currently although might be an idea to fill our costal waters with sea mines !!!

Seems Ukraines military jets bombed hard and fast too. There is no way on earth there will not be mass casualties from this

They are dictators for sure but look what happens to those in communist states that disagree or disobey. The UK is incapable of being the worlds police and to be fair our own country is in dire straights financially.
Can we afford to send arms to Ukraine when we are looking at ridiculous energy price rises and council tax rises ourselves. Sort our own s hit out first before trying to interfere with anyone else’s… just makes my blood boil as you can see .

The British Armed Forces are a professional force with a strength of 153,290 UK Regulars and Gurkhas, 37,420 Volunteer Reserves and 8,170 "Other Personnel" as of 1 April 2021.
Russia army alone 1 million regular soldiers, 2 million reservists….

Russia, china and North Korea spend billions on military hardware and let their population starve. We have no Armed Forces left due to cuts over the years. Perhaps when Russia gets ****ed off with the UK mouthing off and sanctioning there money, perhaps they might send over some off their bombers to shut up our political big mouths once and for all.
There army is 1 million in strength plus 2 million reservists. Probably the same amount of snowflakes this country has in total.
We are no world power anymore and that went with the Empire !!!
