If an asset if worth more than you purchased for (increased its value). Then so is the tax burden increased on it. So to avoid tax on said assets appreciation.

You use that lovely tool called "impairment" to revalue asset or down grade it to avoid tax. Why we are on record saying its worth £36m approx. So taxman will value and tax it accordingly.

So the bit about semnet value is "creative accounting"
