Due diligence will be about the CRUK team looking at SCIB2 and existing data from Scancell - just getting all the groundwork done and a complete understanding to allow a smooth ride through the rest of the development process. It won't be due diligence around the deal itself as that's already done and dusted.

It's not up to Calculus to find a replacement - that is purely down to Scancell. We don't even know for sure that she will be replaced. My guess it that she will in order to retain independence of Audit and Remuneration Committees if nothing else.

Whether it's positive, negative is irrelevant IMO - likely just neutral.

Look, there may be a hundred different reasons why she resigned and a hundred different reasons why Scancell are not able to elaborate.

Anyone suggesting that her resignation is a sign that Calculus are going to sell down doesn't understand how these things work and seriously underestimates John Glencross and his team. If Calculus had lost faith and 'encouraged' KCB to withdraw her services then don't you think they might have sold up beforehand? If Calculus wanted out, I can assure you we wouldn't get any advance warning and they certainly wouldn't take any action to reduce the SP before they had offloaded.

That is not to say that Calculus may not be feeling the same frustrations as the rest of us and there is no doubt that PI's are moving on during this quiet period.

There may be any number of reasons why KCB has resigned. Scancell clearly are unable to reveal them and we will never know. It's possible new investments by Calculus in other bios left her conflicted - ie. a seat on the boards of both Scancell and Calculus resulted in a conflict of interest. As I said on Friday, we will never know.

The only point I would make is that the party line that it is simply good governance and natural turnover of a NED to preserve independence doesn't do it for me - those sort of changes usually happen when NED's are up for re-election or at least with plenty of notice and usually replacement is already lined up.

Ray - she is on both (see link below). As SGD27 mentioned earlier, think the issue has been caused by the fact that she has 2 separate entries at Companies house, one with hyphenated surname and one without hyphen. She is listed under Scancell with one and Calculus with the other so her Scancell record doesn't link with Calculus. Hope that makes sense!!

Agree very much with your last sentence. I assume that she will be replaced and it will be interesting to see who is brought in.

Her appointment was announced via RNS back in 2011 and this morning's RNS confirmed that she has been with Scancell for 7 years. The directors are elected for 3 year periods and Kate Cornish Bowden was up for re-election at last year's AGM. It could be that this is just a case of refreshing the BOD to maintain independence but in my experience that usually (although not always) takes place before re-election and succession planning means that it happens in an orderly way with replacement lined up. Also other NEDs have been with Scancell for longer.

Kate Cornish Bowden IS definitely still today a director of Calculus VCT.

Having said that, there could be any number of reasons why she is standing down. It could be for personal reasons, she may want to take on another role that would create a conflict of interest, a family member might want to take on a role that would create a conflict, she may just feel that her job is done at Scancell or she may simply want to cut down on her committments. Who knows? It's impossible to second guess.

My (limited) understanding is that exosomes are a type of nanovesicle.

As far as I know nanovesicle is a general term for a sort of membrane enclosed bubble that carries material either within or outside of a cell. An exosome is a nanovesicle that carries signalling and genetic info. (miRNA) between cells in the body. It's only been discovered quite recently that exosomes carry micro RNA and are responsible for communication within the body by sending signals between cells. It's another rapidly emerging field.

I have no idea why it was deleted but as Ray has pointed out, development of diagnostics and biomarkers continues apace.

Although there may not be any impact on Scancell's current trials, new biomarkers will be a very positive thing for bios like Scancell. Accurate biomarkers that are acceptable to the regulators will shorten clinical trials and therefore reduce the cost but most importantly will help to ensure that patients are quickly given the most appropriate treatment and don't waste precious time following treatments that they won't respond to. That can only be a good thing for both patients and companies like Scancell.

So IMO, it's good to discuss the wider field of diagnostics and biomarkers as it helps to understand where the field is heading and how Scancell fits into that.

Ray, you are absolutely correct, a huge amount of research dollars are being poured into diagnostics to keep pace with increasing understanding and knowledge of the immune system and in turn better diagnostics and medical devices are helping to drive that increasing knowledge.

The information and link was far more relevant than some posts and I'm sure would have been interesting to other readers.

I don't agree with many of hotwings posts but he has posted something of interest and it clearly sparked some debate at a dreadfully quiet time. I hope admin restore both posts and folks can judge for themselves.

If SCIB1, then Scancell aren't funding part of the trial, they're funding the whole of it. If SCIB2 then they're not funding any of it.
