If anyone has read the govt moonshot details then you would know that as well as billions spent on these rapid tests, there is still plenty of cash (billions) earmarked for PCR going forward over the next 2.5 years. There is plenty of cash for both tests and probably anything 'new' that springs up!

I asked the company about rapid testing against PCR a couple of weeks ago, reply below;

Antigen PCR is not an old style of test - it's always going to be the backbone of any nation's testing strategy as the accuracy and reliability of this lab-based testing can never be replicated by rapid tests. Antigen PCR is what is used in all NHS, Lighthouse and contracted commercial laboratories in the UK.

Lateral flow tests for antibody testing and antigen testing are effective for screening - but not to provide a clinically relevant results at the moment. If an individual is positive from a lateral flow antigen test then they would still be required to take an antigen PCR test for a true diagnostics test.

Yes, pacman, I 've said they will have to outsource to get bigger numbers. I think Ncyt have ten or more manufacturing for them atm.
I don't think LR was even looking to do their own test originally. I reckon it came about when Ncyt didn't extend their agreement for Ygen to do the full kits. That is when I think they decided to do their own test imo.
To be fair to LR he has always firmly said that Covid will only be an 'adjacency' to the core stuff, however I do think he has missed a trick or two with Covid.
I'm just hoping people don't expect any/if govt work to be mahoooosive!
For me, we should be in a stronger position during and post pandemic. We benefit with stronger Covid revenue whilst core dips a bit, then when eventually Covid dips core should come back stronger, so win win!

I think people's expectations need adjusting more than anything else!! Some will think 20/30k a month is 'decent' but I suspect most won't. As I've said, we only have a relatively small capacity so not sure what people expect as 'decent'? We can't do millions a month!!

it's all relative I guess! 20/30k to Ygen is high throughput. To AZN it's nothing. I am not even sure whether they have it automated yet? They will calculate what their maximum capacity is ,which might include outsourcing production/testing and offer the govt any surplus they will have bearing in mind they won't disrupt the private work. That's how I see it anyway!
Will be interesting to see if they can produce a saliva test? We obviously know they are looking into it! Could well be a nice surprise.

97% accuracy?? The chap from Mediskills said in the webinar that many of these 'new' tests fall below their stated figures. Doesn't do what it says on the tin! The experts say PCR will still be used for some time yet, and as you say we just need to make hay whilst we can.
I agree, core products are what it's about longer term.

SJ, sounds like Mr Farrow is exactly the sort of guy we need right now. Better the devil you know and you obviously know him very well! Hopefully he can sort this out and we can move quickly on.

if/when it drops I'm not sure what anyone else is expecting but I can't see it being big numbers. If we can get test capacity up to 30k+ then I think that'll be a result. I suppose we have to bear in mind that we only have a relatively small inhouse manufacturing/testing space so it will be limited. Of course when that is filled they can always outsource if needed.
Yes, it would be ideal to get some feedback on those 10 companies/institutions who were evaluating Clarigene. At least they seem to be selling overseas already so that's good.
LR also mentioned about a 'prestigious' partner signing for genomics in the USA that he would have some news about in October.
