Yes it uses its own cash. Who else's cash should it use? lol
Where the cash has come from is completely irrelevant, but since you ask, I think its better it comes from the sale of loss leading businesses rather than anywhere else.
What would you do? Sell profit generating businesses and keep those that post losses?
I dont think it makes sense trying to explain this to you any longer. Many have tried, all day, but any its going against a brickwall.
I dont see eye to eye with LTI on many things, but when it comes to buy backs, I share LTI's understanding of the mechanics.
Clearly if the SP is lower, a set amount of cash will buy more shares. The more shares are bought back, the lower the total amount of divi expense, or the reduced share number can pay out an increased divi at the same overall cost.
It also clear that the MC is not affected by the buy back.
Lastly, non performing parts of the company are a liability to Vodafone, not and asset, and as far as Voda are concerned they therefore carry no value, other than asset value.
The problem is when inexperienced posters come onto the board and spread the half truths they have read or misunderstood from elsewhere. They are so convinced they know what they are talking about when clearly they do not.
Gutter, I am very afraid for you that this is going to go a lot higher than where it is today over the next few weeks. Very concerned for you.....
KeRow,
The companies cash in the bank is only a very small factor in the calculation of the market capitalization, so your argument is flawed. You are confusing the companies cash position with market capitalization (worth).
Many companies are in net debt after assets and liabilities are factored in, and yet their market capitalization is positive, not negative, because revenues, profits and cash flow are bigger factors for the MC.
To the contrary Gutterclown.
For the buybacks to have maximum effect, we want the share price as low as possible.
We know the low SP is only artificial, but for what it is worth, if it could go lower for the buybacks would be ideal.
