Hmm, the trading update today was a little bit of a disappointment in my view. The summary that I took away was that 2025 full year could be a disappointment because the regularity and normal pattern of cash yielding and profit yielding disposals is becoming delayed. This makes me think that the price could drift over the next few weeks leading to the 16th Sept interims, when further delays and mild disappointments could be announced.

I think this is a terrific company. I'd like to buy some more shares. I've set my buy price at 170p for now.

Apologies - my last comment was ambiguous. I'm not a shareholder, but I plan to become one when and if I can buy at £40.

Interesting comments... On a superficial read, sales by the group have increased by £50M p.a. over the past 5 years which is good progress, from about £80M to about £130M. However, the level of debt required to fund this growth (which is mainly by acquisition) has also increased substantially as I read the financials - from about £20M to about £70M.

I'm not an accountant, but my interpretation is that the price paid for all the acquisitions has been too high - mainly for the Geotek deal.

I don't know how the future will pan out for Judges. I hope the company does well. My buy price is £40.

If the completion is likely and also on a timescale that finishes in 2026, value investors might like to sell now at 96% of the offer price and reinvest the proceeds in another value opportunity - this is one school of thought anyway.

HWG has so many good qualities and is a reliable communicator but I think usually provides a half year trading update in the last week of July. I don't think we have had one this week.

Any others following this company and it's impressive but modestly quiet story ?

Adastra, very interesting research and well presented. I like the story except for one thing.

Looking at the financial performance over the past 5 years, my conclusion is that CSC finds it hard and generally fails to be able to charge customers sufficient to make a profit.

Interested in your views and ideally, being given insight as I'd like to invest more, but this holds me back.

It's pleasing to see a bid with a solid premium this morning. Any declared divis to be subtracted from the 220p offer price.

Hi Adastra, thanks for posting so much useful info and prompts - this is an interesting investment opportunity and I have bought a small number of shares.

In my research however, the pattern of trading over 5 years shows that it's very hard for the company to sell their specialist products and niche services at a high enough price to generate a sustainable or even growing profit.

Do you think that profitability can only come with substantial growth and if so, how easily might the Execs deliver it ?

That divi has now been successfully sent on to new broker now.

I transferred my JIM ISA to another broker (not the recommended one) over the past few weeks but as luck would have it, the final dividend (PLUS500) arrived into my JIM account on 9th July last week. It was showing over the weekend as an outstanding balance and I was expecting it to be pulled through to the new broker within days. It was still sitting there at JIM yesterday.

Alas, today, the JIM portal has a new user interface - one which appears to have wiped all records as far as my account is concerned. And no credit balance.

I already was not impressed....but even less so now. Do be careful any of you who are interested in speculating on Jim would be my advice.

It's encouraging to see the Chair adding substantive and relevant NED experience to the Board, and that she and another NED have, within the past 6 months, bought enough shares to feel invested in the company.

Nice research, which I appreciated, on CSC. I've added a small number.

I've looked at several years financial results and my impression is that although they have defendable products, services, knowledge and maybe IP, they really struggle to make a profit.

It looks like customers just won't pay high enough prices to enable a profit to be made.

I'd be interested to hear any views / observations you may wish to share.

My view is that shareholders will see no upside after liquidation is complete - because advisers will have provided rather high value advice during the wind down. These exceptional costs will likely wipe out any additional value.

In my view, the current share price is greater than current shareholder value.

This small listed business has a webinar today. They mentioned in their interims this morning the relevance of the hydrogen market to their business.

The webinar might provide some interesting information on the hydrogen market which comes from a point earlier in the supply chain than ITM (I think).
