Bought a first tranche here today at 1682p

Interim dividend paid 2nd Jan. 5p per share.

The last time BLT was just over 1000p was early 2008. Within 2 years (early 2010) it was 2500 p.

Only 5 months ago this was 50% higher than it is today.

CMC1 I guess most people would rather go to RIO than for a BLT. That apart, this looks more attractive to me over the next18-24 months. So perhaps that's why Rio is preferred by more people also!

Have just checked and indeed Rio and glen are both down by 20% since August, 700p in the case of Rio and 80p in the case of glen, so in that comparison it is a piece of not very convincing writing, 20% each is the same.

Dking Thanks for the info. However imo Ivan needs to show the benefits of the xstrata tie-up first, before he starts getting takeover fever again. If any of the miners has underperformed in recent years it is glencore. With so many of their top bosses multi- millionaires as a result of the last merger and generous share options, it is worth questioning the ambition of some. Not Ivan though, as he would have made Ghegis Khan run. It may be a distraction play to divert attention from glens p..s poor sp performance over the past couple of years imo. Will be worth watching though for a t/o premium perhaps.atb

Imo this represents great value at this price. 5+ year lows, 8.5%p/e, 5%+ dividend at this price, amazing record of profits, roce much better than competitors each year, lowest costs among its competition. Well run company which operates mainly in more stable countries than some competitors.

Jason31 Before making any decision on Rio or BLT take a look at the 10 year sp chart. Both have been about half this price in 2004 and 2008, when the end of the world was being forecast. See how they recovered and where to. I'm not saying it won't get worse but if these big boys are toast, everyone's done for imo.

I don't think you could lose money buying Rio whenever it dropped below £30. Well, perhaps some of the aim boys might manage to!

25% recovery from the 850p low of just 3 weeks ago. Imo the 1500p of late last year and early this was far too much at that time, anything around 1100- 1200p is great and good for trading a few as well. Also like the special divs.

25% down on 3 months ago. 4.5% yield sp at 5 year low. Surely worth a few more?

PS. I'm not expecting a divis as the sp increase over the past 2 years has been reward enough.

I'd have thought that for such a volatile business as this, a special div payable when appropriate, would be better than giving and taking away, that would be highly likely in the way things can so quickly change for airlines. imo of course.
