I remember clearly in the early days of the Internet everyone saying what a amazing thing, but what are we going to do with it?....and until further development, and the introduction of secure payment systems like PayPal no one had a clue where it was going. Now 30+ years on the Internet drives the world, and we couldn't live without it. I'm not comparing location data with the Internet, just personally think it has the potentially to be another brick in the wall.
I doubt location science data will ever be 'rock n roll' as a hidden data gathering system, but it would appear to be of great future value if a niche can be found for it..., or if the niche they think they have grows and gains momentum.
Imagine the endless uses if technology was non anonymised!....
