I have little doubt that some are influenced by what others say, and as you say, there is a conspiracy theory that people are actually paid to influence. If that is the case then others that possible have a better understanding of this kind of thing than us, believe the same as me.
No matter how researched I am, I will always read a bb before I commit just to get an idea what the holders think. I have never bought because of what is being said on a bb, but have not made investments because of the general consensus, and imo the only place to get a general consensus is from a bb/social media. I have also made punts on what others I know have bought, and I know some have made the same investments as me.
With regard to them waking up, I think they are fully aware of the situation, and I know first hand that much of what happens is beyond their control and it does bother them more than you might think.
There is little that has not been discussed with Rufus and the board over the years including some very strong views in 2017 or 2018? on communications, and I can tell you that no matter what they said they would do regarding better communications has been totally ignored,...but in hindsight recognise that it would have been more counterproductive RNS'ing what has been happing since then until now. Catch-22
You say the bod are doing a bad job. I say to get to this point (in short) is quite an achievement. Sentiment is a view or an opinion in this case influenced by money, so few will be of the same view imo
