eyesblue, next Wednesday is the date for the CC hearing. If they rule it out, then normal service can resume.
If they rule that the call for a referendum is legal and has merit, then I'm afraid it has the capacity to drag on for quite some time.

Let's hope the hearing goes the "right" way and this issue can finally be put to bed. People will then be able to invest with full confidence, knowing what a great asset this company owns.
Btw, until it's resolved, I'd be very surprised to see any action on the CGP front (no bad thing)...or any other, come to that.

This issue has added another layer of political risk (which has always been my main concern) and, at this stage of the game, it was one layer too many.

I would have preferred to have seen an RNS explaining the company's view of this CC/referendum issue. I admit to be highly confused by all this. It's obvious where the President's sympathies lie, but to what extent can they be overruled? If a referendum went against mining (assuming a referendum is held) would he take the political risk of ignoring the result? How can this issue be put to bed once and for all?
At this stage, these questions are unanswerable, but in the meantime they have led to greater uncertainty and I would like to hear something from the company.

Cookie, everything you say is true, however, this looks to be more important. Even the President appears to be taking it seriously by asking the question of how the country would pay for the compensation and where would it get future revenues?
In slightly different times perhaps this sort of thing could be ignored; but we no longer live in those times. The global Green lobby is developing a stranglehold on debate and despite the fact our copper is needed for the Green Revolution, we are being tarred with the same brush.
We know that the local population of Cascabel voted in the recent local elections for a pro-mining candidate...for the obvious reason of self-interest i.e jobs, prosperity etc. But what's being talked about here appears to have the potential to take this away from being a local issue.

It's been interesting reading the posts on here over the past week. People seem quite divided about whether this is a good deal or not, and I too find myself in that position.
It's patently obvious that Gangfen bring much to the party, in a way that no financial investor could. However, it does seem a high price to pay; although I don't think there was much choice. And Seckers inability to be clear has most certainly not helped. So, no change there, then.
Underlying everything, remains the simple fact that this is a great resource and now that it looks like there will be some professionals onboard, the chances of Secker ferking it up have been mitigated to a significant degree.
