If you were an institutional investor who invests for the long term, what would you make of SOLG?
Yes, it's a hugely interesting prospect - but comes with geo-political risk, but would you consider the takeover talk as a plus or minus? This is not as daft as it sounds. Many investors wouldn't want to get involved in anything which may turn out only to be an investment of a matter of months - even if there's a short term upside; it's just not what they do. (I'll concede, there are plenty that are interested in short term situations, but I'm pretty sure NM wouldn't want them on the register)
To me, the likely investors are hedge funds, who love this sort of thing, particularly if there's a bit of shareholder argy-bargy going on.

Quady, ultimately, does it really matter if your mates in the pub didn't know anything about us? It's not going to change the outcome.
And as for "brand awareness", we are not like some High Street outfit where such a thing is necessary. All that matters is that we're known to those who are actually important with respect to our future i.e the mining community.

Within the industry and the mining sector of the financial services industry, I'd be very surprised if anyone ISN'T aware of SOLG.

So, if CGP team-up with NCM an EGM will happen. The outcome would be tight as I imagine BHP would support the motion. I don't like this one bit.
That pirate Christopher Mills has recently gained control of FCRM by a similar mechanism and it will be hugely deleterious to private investors.

I agree, Colonel. Having CGP and NCM stir the pot, will suit them perfectly.

Does anyone know what percentage of shares are required to force an EGM? Or can any shareholder do it? I'm not sure what the Articles say.

Quady, by stating they have 65% they have made a legally binding comment and would be subject to action if it proved false.
They are under no obligation to name those shareholders who've said no.

In my opinion, the very worse thing that could happen for us private investors is that the board is ousted. BHP and NCM would be able to carve-up the company in whichever way they wish. It would be hugely disadvantageous.
If they want to control the company, they must bid for it and pay a fair value.

1. The approach to CGP.
2. Whether a bid for SOLG will happen or not.
3. Do we want such a bid.
4. Is NM doing a good job? Should he be sacked?
I'm sure there are others.
But the one thing with which we all agree (apart from a few of the lunatic outliers) is that we are sitting on something of very real significance and current share price does not even come close to representing true value.
Our disagreements centre upon how to realise this huge value - which actually places us in a very nice position.

My thought process yesterday was interesting - to me, at least. I hadn't really been paying much attention to EUA, but was obviously pleased to see the positive balance in my account. I was deeply suspicious of the whole thing (you may well ask why I'd invested, and it's a good question) Anyway, when TBTT posted his comments, it made me sit up and think. I was due to go to hospital to have the first part of my treatment for prostate cancer, which has been delayed from March, and was in a hurry. Suddenly my mind cleared and I pressed the sell button before leaving the house.
So, well done TBTT, and thank you - you got me re-focussed and saved me a few bob.

What is the point of this post? Like every single price prediction made by people on these boards, both bull and bear, it's merely fiction - an invention of a fevered mind with absolutely no argument to back it up.

You're not going to believe this, but following TBTT's comments I was brought to my senses and sold at just over 18.5p.

TBTT, it's certainly tempting. One of the most accurate gauges of an over-hyped share is what people post on this site. And the amount of utter tripe on the EUA page has reached fever pitch.

I had a punt a long time ago and got a large number of shares for not much money. It's one of those stocks which I'm really not sure about and regard the investment as a gamble. Mind you, I'm feeling quite happy with life at the moment!
In no way do I equate EUA with SOLG, which is an altogether more serious business.

The linked article states Citi have "downgraded NCM from neutral to neutral" erm?

As both a defensive strategy and a means to delivering shareholder value, selling Alpala makes a huge amount of sense, but NM simply doesn't see it that way. I wonder how much Citi how far pursued that argument? They will certainly have discussed it.
