pernickty, I voted for NM and against the specials, so I got what I wanted. I did not wish to give blanket approval to NM to structure a deal without our approval, hence my vote against the specials.
I also believe the company strategy is fundamentally flawed, particularly when there's such an obvious alternative, which I think NM will now be forced to pursue.

They were not happy at all. They recognise just how vulnerable this has made them and I'm bound to s ay this is entirely as a result of NM's deliberately antagonistic behaviour to our main shareholders. He was very stupid to pick a fight and now the path is clear to a takeover...silly boy.
And as for our resident genius and his "diverse book", well, he's just seen how that works. A takeover would easily sway enough retail investors and it will be game over.
Personally, I don't see NM resigning, although most CEOs facing this backlash would. His task, in my opinion, is now crystal clear - dispense with the production fantasy and create a path to realising some shareholder value. Sell alpala or the whole lot...my preference being the former.
Overall, this is a humiliation for NM and he needs to address the situation.

1) I was surprised at the number of votes against NM.
2) I was not surprised they lost 13 and 14.
3) NM's position is now tenuous to say the least.
4) Would all those who thought this would be a "formality", "walk in the park" etc, please accept you were completely and utterly wrong.

Steve, most journalism relies upon unnamed sources, particularly corporate journalism. But I guess you knew that. And Bloomberg is not exactly some backstreet rag from Hicksville, Missouri.
But you are right, it is common sense - as more than a few of us have been pointing out for ages.

They've simply made this all up. We all know tomorrow is a mere formality and our main shareholders are all very happy bunnies, as so many people on here have said.

RNS from Rio today concerning their copper/gold mine in Mongolia.
When operational it should be the fourth largest mine in the world. It's going to cost $6.75bn and will not be up and running until 2028/30.
The announcement is worth reading because it gives a real indication of just what's involved in getting a new mine into production. Bear in mind, they are one of the largest miners with capabilities far in excess of ours.

rcgl, that's a bit disingenuous. The share price was higher in both 2015 and 2017. Of course, there are now many more shares in issue, so it's not a true comparator. But the fact remains, the market cap in no way reflects the value here and you have to ask why.

z, good post. In fact, it's quite possible the size and scope of our potential assets is so large that it's too big and complex for any single company to exploit fully, let alone a small company such as ours.

I guess he thinks we're here for the benefit of our health, or to keep Mather in employment, perhaps. Other than that, I'm struggling to understand why companies exist.

FTJNY, that's an interesting thought.
Maybe NCM have said to NM, you can have our support but only if you step aside and the company appoints this excellent man, with whom we've worked closely and who has produced outstanding results for all shareholders.
If you haven't already guessed, this is all tongue-in-cheek stuff. But who knows? Stranger things have happened.

rcgl, I think it's surprising news. He's done an amazing job for GGP shareholders and it seems odd he's leaving at this stage. One can only conclude he's moving on to something bigger and even more exciting i.e us!

Hopefully, he's left to take over from Mather at SOLG, where he can repeat the trick.

Heddle is leaving GGP. Maybe he's being lined-up for Mather's job.
